Help updating my Flight Simulator

Hello! I purchased FS2020 like 2 years ago, from Microsoft Store. Now I wanted to start playing it again but it tells me that I need to install an update that is too big for what is left on my HD. I am planning to acquire a bigger HD only for this game, but I don’t know if it could be transferred from the current (C Drive) to a new one. Is this feasible? If so can someone pls kindly guide me on how to transfer it? Or, would it be better to install the whole thing to the new HD and forget about the install I already have in C? Thanks in advance.

Thank you very much for your help.

Buy your new SSD.
Install it.
You may need to initialize it. Use Disk Management.
Clone your existing HD drive to your new SSD.
The cloning software will be provided with the drive.

Remove the existing HD drive.

Nothing changes on your PC except that you are now running on the new SSD.

I really appreciate all the responses but still have a doubt.: is there a way I can keep my FSIM install in C:\ and at the same time get the upgrades downloaded to D:? Sorry if it is a dumb question but as you may have noticed I’m not very knowledgeable about computers. Thanks.

The part of FS2020 that installs to C: (or boot), which is 2 GB, is mandatory to be on the Windows boot drive, C:.
You cannot change this.

The rest of FS2020, called the “Installed Packages” of 270 GB, can be installed to or moved to another drive.

Make a folder on your desired drive. (D:\MSFS)

  1. Install to it.
  2. After install, move it with the FS Simulator app “Move” command.
