So I’m trying to make setting the com frequencies easier using controllers. Doing this in the air by moving the mouse cursor onto a tiny hotspot, holding it there with a button, and then adjusting the frequency, all while the plane is doing whatever else is a huge pain in the ■■■.
I’ve found trying to setup controller profiles even more frustrating and exasperating. Either I can’t find the specific function I want, creating the expected behavior is a puzzle box mystery, or the specific functionality I want is just missing.
Here’s what I’m currently trying to do:
The idea was that I could hold Mouse Button 5 like a switch/shift and then roll the mouse wheel to change the com frequency. Nope. Simply pressing Button 5 causes the com frequency to increment, and holding it down causes it to rapidly.
And man, was it a chore just getting that combo to show up. Apparently you can’t select the combo from the drop down list “Select an Input”, and it’s a delicate balancing act trying to set it using the buttons. I had to position the mouse over the “Start Scanning” box, carefully lift it off desk without moving it, and then I could hit a button combo. Otherwise it just immediately registers a mouse axis because of tiny movements.
Any thoughts on how to bind this properly, or a different controller combo that works well? I guess I could just use the keyboard instead, but rolling the mouse wheel felt more realistic and natural. I also have the Honeycomb Bravo and saw users combining multiple switch buttons with the increment/decrement knob on the AP panel in order to change com frequencies. Remembering the proper switch combos and then cranking that tiny knob dozens of times to set the fractional com frequency sounds like a hassle though.
