For those who need to locate the community folder frequently, or have trouble finding it, one suggestion is to put a shortcut onto the desktop. Rather than placing the community folder itself, I locate ‘Packages’ (which contains the Community folder) on the desktop.
My string is C:\Users\User\AppData\Local\Packages\MicrosoftFlightSimulator-(nbrs/letters)\LocalCache\Packages (but don’t include ‘Community’ at the end of this string)
I store all scenery in another file (actually in D: drive). Double clicking on ‘Packages’ then displays the Community folder, and I just drag scenery into the Community Folder as I want it, because I only load the scenery I want to use for a flying session. When flying is complete, I just delete the scenery files I had loaded, knowing that the original scenery file is still in the D drive. This way the Community folder stays relatively lean.
I opted to install the content into D:\MSFS on a separate 1 TB NVMe drive. Both my Official and Community folders live there. They’re nice and easy to find.
Use a tool called “MSFS Add-on Linker” and then you don’t need to copy files to the Community folder at all.
Easy to use and you can group all kinds of content together. E.g. a single tick for me loads in gliders, utilities and DEMs for Austria/Switzerland when I want to go gliding.
I use the Quick Access feature in Win-10 to pin the Packages folder (contains both Community and Official) to the left side of every folder window. Once you’re in a folder you want, just right-click the Quick Access header and choose the option to pin that location.
