Hidden Russian runway...could it be used by KGB or GRU

Hidden among 7000ft mountains down at 800ft. not mapped on SKYVECTOR…or does MS2020 add there own

It’s entirely possible that the airfield was abandoned and removed from aeronautical charts, but is physically still in existence. I encountered this at Abbotsford, Wisconsin (ICAO Identifier KABB), which was actually Colby-Abbotsford before being abandoned sometime in the 80s or 90s. But the path of the main runway is still clear and the airport is listed in the MSFS departure/arrival fields on the world map.

If you do a search for the coordinates, any surrounding settlements, or perhaps the airport name itself if you have it, you might be able to find more information on it.

Hmmm…I might try that. Thanks!

Hello,

Nice finding, but you are a little bit late… this base seems to be known since 1967 !

Have a look here :

Strangely, there are Google Street view pictures of the access road with an unidentified panel :

If someone knows this image… I could not find anything close on Google images.

If you zoom on Bing Maps, you can see the runway is really bad… made of concrete tiles almost destroyed by weather.

To be continued !

Wow…that’s pretty cool. I was just making a story, but that is exactly what it looked like. I followed that little road around, looked at the houses. They did remind me of being old military housing similar to what we have around here. I think I even saw those signs there…JK. but that’s awesome. Thanks!

Just read…“Satellite imagery from early 2018 showed that the runway is plowed in the wintertime, indicating the base remains operational or in caretaker status.”

I think my next flight will be around there along the volcanoes… thanks for pointing this place.

Yes it could be. But this image appears only on specific medals… I could find no other pictures with this “flying bear”.

Just like this Chinese labor camp in remote Tibet.

Funny how we can see more dirt than we ever visualized before…sad, sad earth…some beautiful some just all pond scum…

MSFS hides a lot of Russian military facilities. Funny how they don’t hide the American ones though.

Oh no…it must be a conspiracy? Who do I point my pitchforks at?

You don’t need me to tell you where to put your pitchfork.
