Seeing all these videos with 4090 I was curious to see how my system would perform against these cards. Lots of videos gave me a lots of ideas and info on performance in general. So I decided to do some tweaking today to see if I could get the max out of my system.
and what a remarkable discovery I did today.
My system:
Intel 11700k running at 4800
DDR 3400
RTX 3080 10g
2 TB NVM SSD
HP Reverb 2
driver 522.25 ( had 522.47 but rolled back)
All the time my system was stuck with pdmg 737 between 25 and 30fps. Open XR120/125. fluent but just not that wauw effect.
so I started experimenting and found that highering the open xr resulted in an increase in framerate. what I have see. today in my Reverb is just amazing!! resolution of approx 3700/3700
at almost 35/40fps above tokyo/new york etc with the pmdg737.
I use open xr toolkit. sharpness 40
Open XR 140 in game render 100
DLSS/Performance
today I lowered some settings in sim to see the result and I have to say it still looks amazing.
I run now T lod 150 and object lod 200.
most settings high anti alliasing at 16x.
texture super sampling of (makes no difference in my opinion)
The result is amazing to see the Reverb at this resolution with this fps.
dont think I need to upgrade any hardware if the development of the sim is going this way.
SU10 has been an great improvement for me.
However what really surprised me is that going from open xr 120 to 140 resulted in an increase in fps. Looks like my system is boosting because of an higher demand. cant really explain whats happening but I love it.
My VR has never been so good just by tweaking.
ps I noticed that it is best to always start a flight from the home screen.
sometimes I start a flight and the fps stays lower and then another restart makes it go up to round 35/40 fps. looks like a memory bug but as you know it is solvable.
thought to share this.
happy flying!

That’s great news. in the recent 28th October webinar “VR: New Horizons in Flight Sim - with Pimax!” by a panel of experts in the Flight Sim Association, they were saying LOD not needed as much as most people have in their settings
I can only agree on that think 125/150 tlod is the sweespot. I will test some more.
With render resolution at 3700/3700, DLSS in performance mode is actually rendering at 50% of that ie. 1850/1850 so no wonder you are getting great performance. It is strange that increasing render resolution resulted in better performance, but a win is a win so take it

Agree I just saw it too.
but by highering the Open XR to 140/150 the end result is a sharp and crisp image with high fps.
So for me highly recomended and best I have seen in a year VR. More strange after loading the sim and restart the same scenery before taking of is also highering the fps in non vr resulting in higher fps in vr. buggy but it works.
Is it the upscaling setting that you are changing?
yes normal render at 100 open xr at 140.
Great findings! I also tried that and have good results. Maybe the glass panels are a bit blurrier but not that bad. With my 3080TI I even can use DLSS Quality. DX12 does not work and stutters (the memory thing…). Have to test a longer flight now.

good to hear.
I noticed that performance runs the best for me. I can go up to 150 bit thats the limit.
I highered also some other settings.
the image is amazing in the reverb
I’ll preface this by saying I’ve not got any VR setup myself yet, but I’ve been researching with the intention of jumping on board by the end of the year. I’ve read the OpenXR documentation, going from 120 to 140 on the upscaling reduces the target resolution the game renders at prior to the upscaling, which is why you are seeing the performance increase.
Is that available to view for free anywhere, like YouTube?
EDIT: Nvm, here it is: VR: New Horizons in Flight Sim - with @Pimax! - YouTube
Why would going from 120 to 140 effectively lower any resolution? Surely it’s the opposite?
I’m just going by what is written in the documentation:
“A value above 100% represents the ratio “target display resolution over application rendering resolution”. The higher the value, the lower the application rendering resolution.”
but the renderscale is lower that is true.
but for some reason with dlss in performance it gives me a high upscaled image with high fps with my Reverb. maybe its illusion but its the best I have seen sofar.
btw I highering the normal open xr not the toolkit
not the toolkit. see pics.
see pics its the normal open xr
and much higer res in reverb. see pics
Ah ok, I had thought it was the upsampling in the toolkit. Thanks for the pictures, so far all I’ve had to go on is the written documentation, it’s nice to see all the parts together with coherent settings.
Glad you found a nice setting, enjoy your flying. Hopefully it won’t be too long until I can get a headset and join the fun.
if you can do it!!
its amazing!!
I tried a lot now. my advice get a reverb 2 and a 3080 you will not be disapointed.
have a great day!
