Hobbs meter is inaccurate (Cessna 404)

ISSUE DESCRIPTION

Description of the issue:
The Hobbs meter is inaccurate. The Cessna 404 Titan aircraft did not begin with zero hours for a new pilot. The meter begins with about 8 hours recorded.
The logbook shows I have flown the aircraft for 75 minutes, while the Hobbs meter shows 9.8 hours of engine use. I did not taxi nor idle for 8 hours. I have not used Dev mode with the aircraft (which would not add flights to the logbook).

If applicable, which aircraft is experiencing this issue:
Cessna 404 Titan

[PC Only] Did you remove all your community mods/add-ons? If yes, are you still experiencing the issue? Yes. Yes.

FREQUENCY OF ISSUE

How often does this occur for you (Example: Just once, every time on sim load, intermittently)? Every time.

REPRODUCTION STEPS

Please list clear steps you took in order to help our test team reproduce the same issue:

  1. Select Free Flight.
  2. Select the Cessna 404 Titan
  3. Observe the Hobbs meter.
  4. Compare the Hobbs meter hours listed to the flight Logbook hours recorded of all flights in that aircraft.
  5. Be especially mindful if there are no previous flights in the aircraft but the Hobbs meter displays several hours of aircraft use.

YOUR SETTINGS

If the issue still occurs with no mods and add-ons, please continue to report your issue. If not, please move this post to the User Support Hub.

Inaccurate? Kind of depends on what the meter is monitoring and on which aircraft. Some measure time that electrical systems are on, some measure oil pressure, some are triggered by airspeed, etc…

@trashmon49
It should start at zero hours used before the first flight.

Doubtful. A brand new aircraft has hours on the Hobbs. It had to get from point A to point B and a new aircraft is test flown long before it’s in a customers hands. Purpose is to track A&P for maintenance records.

The Cessna 404 Titan was manufactured between 1976-1982. If they were simulating that it is a used aircraft, then it would have more than 8 hours on the meter. It is not standard practice to reset Hobbs meters during an engine overhaul, the aircraft logbook would be annotated of the hours listed when the maintenance occured.
• In MSFS 2020 all aircraft begin with 0 hours listed and track my use of the aircraft. This is a much more useful metric for me to see how many hours I’ve put into a specific aircraft.

By comparison the Cessna C408 SkyCourier begins with 0 hours on the Hobbs meter prior to my first flight in the aircraft.
