Honeycomb Alpha - Not recognized

Hello,

I hope someone has an idea on this. I bought a Honeycomb Alpha a week ago and I can’t get it working. From what I have read and researched, plugging it in to a PC will just work. When I plug my Alpha in to my computer I get an error in Device Manager: " Unknown USB Device (Device Descriptor Request Failed )." I have researched this on the forums and one possible cause is power management settings in Windows 10. I have adjusted them as suggested, but without any luck. The other thing I did was to edit my power plan on my PC as suggested. This didn’t work as well. I bought a dedicated USB powered hub and plugged the Alpha in to that. This also unfortunately did not work. I reached out to Honeycomb, but I haven’t heard anything back after almost a week. Anyone know of any thing else to try? I have also tried different USB ports.

thanks

Do you have a second computer or a friends computer you can try plugging into? I can’t imagine why your computer is not recognizing it.

@danzio56 I did try it on another computer and I got the same error. I am completely stumped on this one. I also have been trying to get a hold of Honeycomb, but without any luck via the support ticket system, calling and emailing them for over a week now. I really regret buying it. I tried to return it to the seller, but they said I had to get in touch with Honeycomb to resolve the technical issue.

Well I’m sorry to hear of your troubles with the Alpha. I will say that for their price point they are the best hardware on the market. However there are a multitude of customer service issues with them as well so that must be taken into consideration. I can tell you that you will most likely get this resolved but you must be persistent. Hound them with emails and eventually you will get an RMA. At least that was my experience on my Bravo. It did take some time and lots of aggravation but eventually my problem was resolved.

By the way, did you happen to try another USB cable? It may be that the cable is defective and a simple swap may quickly solve your problem.

I haven’t tried another cable actually. I was thinking of doing that, but I didn’t have another cable in which I could test that out. The one interesting thing is that when I plug it in to the USB I do hear the sound notification from Windows 10 that something was plugged in to the PC. You are correct about Honeycomb support, it is very disappointing. I even reached out to the CEO on LinkedIn hoping to get his attention and that didn’t help either. I do realize you must be persistent, which is really terrible that you have to do that.

I unpacked my honeycomb alpha today and windows wouldn’t recognize it. Swapped out the USB c to usb A cable and voila it worked.

Har ligeledes problemer med honeycomb. Har prøvet alt …uden held

Seems like this has been a while, but I wonder if (and how) you resolved the issue. I’m having the exact same problem with a Virtual Fly V3RNIO+ TPM that WAS working properly for a couple of months - I’ve tried different ports, cables, powered hubs, different computers, OS updates, nothing has worked to resolve this. Would sure buy somebody a beer if they had a solution!

When I first got my Alpha, it did not work either. Discovered that it was the USB cable, which they replaced–but I had to pay for shipping!!!

My Alpha is powered during Bios but goes dark when W11 loads. It is recognized but Control Panel shows this device as
"This device cannot start. (Code 10)

{Operation Failed}
The requested operation was unsuccessful."

And system/devices shows the Alpha but notes “driver error”

Any thoughts appreciated.
