Honeycomb alpha yoke & bravo throttle in VR, esp buttons

Hi! I’m now using a Thrustmaster HOTAS Warthog for my MSFS flying. While those are very nice controllers it turns out I mostly fly GA planes. I’m tempted by the Honeycomb Alpha & Bravo yoke & throttle, not least for my favourite Cessna 414 Chancellor. I reckon the main inputs (steering, levers and wheels on the throttle quadrant) will work well in VR. The annunciator lights obviously won’t do anything for me. But what about the buttons? Labeled for battery, avionics and lights on the alpha, unlabeled on the bravo. Can you use them in practice while in VR?

Obviously there are buttons and swtiches on the HOTAS Warthog too, but being a HOTAS concept they are designed to be used without being able to look at them. The Honeycomb buttons are not.

So, any of you use the Honeycomb controls in VR? Does it work well? Do you use the buttons?

Yes it works well, you soon build up muscle memory when locating dials and switches

Works great in VR, you will quickly gain muscle memory on where the buttons are. You can even add other button boxes to your setup and use it all in VR with no issues. The most important thing is to try and get your devices as close to the same spot as possible (assuming you need to move things between flying, I know I do since I use the same space for work, flying (combat and commercial) and driving sims)

Thanks, sounds promising! Yes I would need to move them every time I’m flying. I hope it’s a quick process.

How long will depend on your setup.

I use the Obutto Revolution workstation/cockpit and it takes me maybe 2-3 minutes to switch between setups and that includes removing one controller setup shelving it and attaching another controller setup. Important to note I have everything marked on my setup to make sure I am getting things at the same height and position each time I switch.

I have exactly the same setup. Both the Warthog and the honeycomb alpha and bravo. Its a fantastic setup. The bravo is the star of the show. Fantastic possibility to adjust to every plane you fly. And the trim wheel is just great. With regards to the buttons and muscle memory- to me it’s not that easy with the smaller buttons. I prefer to use the mouse in the cockpit to control the autopilot. But might be just me. But definitely no regrets buying the honeycombs and I use them much more than the Warthog nowadays. Great build quality by the way. My setup is i9-10900k, rtx 3090, 64 Gb ran, hp reverb G2

Thanks! Even your computer is very similar to mine, except I have an i7-9700k instead.

I’ll wait until Black Friday in case something nice happens to prices then, but this certainly sounds promising.

Not least the trim wheel; controlling trim with a hat switch on the Warthog joystick doesn’t work very well for me.

I agree, it works with the hat switch but it not great. You will love the trim wheel on the Bravo. It just adds to the immersion that it’s a proper wheel. There are good videos on YouTube setting up the bravo in MSFS.
