(Seriously folks, do yourselves a favor and try one or both of spad.next or FSUIPC for input bindings. Even if you only change just the trim binding, it will CHANGE YOUR LIFE. It’s well worth a small registration fee if you decide to keep it.)
Lots of good help here thanks to all. The work arounds all seem to have there compromises. What I am having trouble with is why Asobo seems to be unable to get something like this right its pretty much a basic function. Hopefully in the next sim update.
Could you please send your workarround exe-file.
Thanks
Jörg
Hey there - I’m wondering if you’d be happy to post up a quick spad.next tutorial on how you set up your Bravo workaround?
Many thanks!
Steve
Sure!
So the trim down/up “buttons” on the Bravo are buttons 22 and 23. Select 22 for down, and hit “Add Event”, and select “Button pressed” from the menu:
On the button press event screen, select “Add Action” and “Change data value” from the menu:
Select either ELEVATOR TRIM PCT (percentage) or ELEVATOR TRIM POSITION (radians) and pick an increment that works for you. Set it up to decrement by that amount for button 22, and increment for button 23:
I went with 0.00109 radians per increment, which was derived from some estimation of the trim range on a Cessna 172 and a lot of testing to something that felt reasonably comfortable for me. I can’t speak to its realism, as I’ve not flown a real such plane yet.
Thanks so much! I followed your values and can definitely see an improvement in the trim movement.
Much appreciated. Looks like I’ll be paying for Spad.next at the end of the trial!
Cheers
Thanks vib that helped a lot and it would have taken me hours to figure out on my own.
Hi Simmer,
could anybody provide the exe, wich is mentioned here.
Thanks
Jörg
Me too, I’ve trained myself up to use the trim wheel and I don’t want to alter and confuse my flying skills. Makes the game unplayable after spending a small fortune to use quality peripherals - from Asobo/ MS partners.
This shouldn’t be a hard fix, just put an option to bypass the 10deg / clock limit on certain buttons, such as the elevator pitch buttons.
The Spad.neXt exe is here: Download SPAD.neXt - SPAD.neXt
I’m really unhappy with this work-around. It doesn’t feel right and if you boost the number to 0.0025 it doesn’t work. Plus Spad.neXt crashes when prompted to change planes. It’s not a good experience.
Hey guys,
Here’s the link for the .exe file. Again, this was created from AutoHotKey script that I posted.
This was tested with only the Alpha Yoke and Bravo Throttle plugged in to my PC. My PC recognized the Bravo as the 2nd controller, Alpha is the first.
It also need to have the default trim set up for keyboard numpad 7 for trim up and numpad 1 for trim down.
To quickly test if it’s working you can open up notepad to see if it’s writing 7s and 1s when you use the trim wheel.
Hope it works for you.
They can give us a repeat rate for the trim buttons. That way we can say what the repeat rate will be and adjust as needed.
Thanks for the tip. I just tried this and it does seem to work. Or at the very least, turning it slowly changes the trim just as fast as spinning the heck out of it. I am sure that spinning the trim wheel faster does not move the trim tab any faster than if I turn the wheel slowly.
Just checked the 172 out again after the huge update today and it appears Asobo has gotten the Honeycomb trim issue solved. I wasn’t expecting this bug fix along with the performance update today but was more than pleasantly surprised to find out it works perfectly again.
Thanks Asobo!!! Outstanding job with this newest update!
Try it out. It’s now working exactly like you’d expect and I was just checking out the update when I stumbled upon it.
So the trim wheel bug was fixed with the new Sim update 5?
seems like it yes, i used to have to resort to vjoy+joystick gremlin to repeat inputs from the bravo trimwheel, that’s no longer required. it’s working correctly now out of the box! very happy with this fix, thanks Asobo!
My trim wheel working as it should again.
Can’t wait to try out SU5. I’ll be so happy seeing the trim wheel fixed again. I thought it was great when I first got the Bravo, but now I avoid using it. Will be great to use it again.
Still frigging downloading though. It’s been going for 24 hours so far. The main 40GB update is done, now I’m doing the content manager 23GB update, except I just noticed after initially only reporting 7 updates in the content manager, now I seem to have 60 odd updates. At this rate, it will be next week before it’s finished downloading.. And I have a 100M Internet connection.
