Honeycomb Delta

Goodness, this looks sweet. Can I assume no Xbox compatibility? :frowning:

Display screens for avionics!

Omg Iā€™m going to have to reverse mortgage my home arenā€™t I

They canā€™t even support a yoke, I donā€™t have high hopes for screens.

If you meant Xbox support: they actually announced a kind of hub to make their + Logitech hardware (at least controls) compatible with Xbox so they donā€™t have to develop completely different hardware sets

Just like pedals, lots of companies make displays (e.g. RealSimGear). Honeycombā€™s job is going to be to actually deliver these. The charlie pedals are about 2 years late at this point. Iā€™m not holding my breath waiting for their dispays.

Looked a lot more modular than RealSimGear. I envy ReamSimGearā€™s G1000 setup (as an Xbox flyer - even if I had a PC, Iā€™d still have a hard time pulling the trigger) - but youā€™e limited to G1000 planes. Nickiā€™s up there promising all this Delta support and different screen configurations for different aircraft. Where engine monitoring page turns into AP controsl when you wave your hand over them. If it is actually that sweet, and can be delivered upon, you could have the sickest cockpit for a relatively reasonable price.

And just as Iā€™m watching this and thinking I need a PC, they announce a flight-sim optimized PC partnership with Corsair.

Not overly excited.

Because the Deltas are essentially just LED displays though, you can customise your custom setup depending on whatever you want to fly that day. Each panel comes with a knob which you can twist and turn, so you can also operate the various switches and dials in your plane by either using the touchscreen functionality, or by using the physical knob on your delta.

Sounds like something many non-Xbox users (myself included) are already doing much cheaper with any old tablet, free spacedesk app, free popout manager (which adds touch screen functionality) and a $60 midi device such as Behringer Xtouch or perhaps the more expensive Knobster. I think Iā€™ll pass.

Iā€™d be more inclined to replace Alpha with the new Alpha Pro, if the latter has higher torque in the rolling axis.

Prices for the displays are $350 for the 12ā€ and $250 for the 7ā€ display. Then again, it looks to be just a simple display with a single rotorary switch on it. No other buttons, which is a chance lost. They also have motion sensors, but no touch screen.

On a different note, their Charlie rudder pedals are once again delayed and their Foxtrot HOTAS has even been put on hold completely.

Honeycomb takes way too long to release their products and has a terrible customer support. A long time ago they also announced small bravo extentions like a fixed mouse pad and then never mentioned it again. So it could be that the Delta displays are still multiple years away.

EDIT: The screens have touch support after all. I got this wrong.

The little promo image actually did say 1080p multi touch screen.

I agree with everything else you said though, I have both the alpha and bravo and was waiting for a long time for the charlies but eventually gave up and bought something else.

Yes, I did get that wrong. They do have touch screen at least. My bad.

There is a space in the market for a reasonably priced touchscreen monitor in the 10 to 12" size range - the current options seem limited despite the ubiquity of excellent touchscreens on tablets. A hardware rotary encoder makes sense as thats a type of interaction not well served by touchscreen functions.

whatā€™s wrong with the yoke?

Nothing special really. A touch screen with a button and a knob. We already have these capabilities. Itā€™s nicely packaged in a single enclosure but thatā€™s about it. No need to wait for this when you can do just what this offers now.

Looking absolutely fantastic

4 versions of the same yoke and canā€™t release pedals for 2 years. Throttle and stick put on hold. Good luck with those screens!

Only thing theyā€™ll be releasing soon is that 300$ gaming chair.

Thank you!

Iā€™ll repost the photo I took at FlightSimExpo for people to see here:

Hi there,

I asked your question to Nicki Repenning, founder and CEO of Honeycomb. He said that it will definitely not be available for Xbox at launch time, but he would love for it to be in the future. The issue is that it would require a change on the Xbox side in order to have that support, and it is really in the hands of Microsoft as to whether or not they will support it in the future.

He said that part of Microsoftā€™s thought process in that decision would be estimating how many people might actually use a device like this, since many Xbox users use their Xboxes in their living rooms and therefore might not have a desire to add hardware like this in their living rooms. They have to weigh that versus the cost it would take to actually implement such a change.

Bottom line: Heā€™d like to, it will not happen at launch, and the decision is not in his hands. Hope that is helpful even if it is not the answer you were hoping for!
