Hours gone

I had heard that it was possible, didn’t think it would happen to me, but a few hours ago I lost nearly 400 hours in the sim, and all my airport landings counted towards the 500 different airport landing achievements. I’m gutted that now I have to start my hours all over again. Thankfully all the achievements that I had gotten are still there, but this is just so painful.

Yup. And there is absolutely no solution whatsoever. They are gone forever. I feel your pain.

Yep, I’ve heard that as well. I’ve been keeping track of my hours since mid-March. Sad that I missed the 500-hour achievement by 40 hours (as of today). Oh well, stuff happens.

Exactly what happened to me. I was 20 hours off. Nm. :pray:t3:

When this happened to me a few weeks ago… I remember feeling gutted too. You’re not alone my friend.

for me it is 300 hours that are “lost”! And the… “great” “support” from zendesk does not help anyone!

I’m at 945 hours, so getting close to that final 1000 hr achievement, and will not be letting MSFS blast away my logbook. I back that puppy up daily!

Let me clarify something: I’m on the Xbox side of the sim (I thought that the tag was included in my post, but maybe it wasn’t). When I told fellow gamers about what’d happened, the main question/comment was, “Isn’t all that backed up on the cloud?”

As near as I can figure out, that does not seem to be the case. I’m guessing on the PC side there is a way to save that logbook file in the event something like this were to happen. When I noticed some of the hours I had completed (like a Monday evening flight of 3 hours) would be removed from the logbook the next day, I decided to start tracking my hours on a spreadsheet. The problem with that is none of it will count towards the achievement.

The fact there is no way of getting all that information back is what disappoints me the most. I know others have had a lot more hours lost than I did, and it seems to be one of those perplexing issues that plague this sim (among many others). I wouldn’t expect that anything would get done if I submitted a trouble ticket on zendesk, and I suspect that many simmers have given up reporting any problems because there is hardly ever a solution to the problem. There is so much I love about MSFS 2020, but right now it feels like I’m getting tough love from the sim.

You did the hours and enjoyed yourself. What does it matter what MSFS says ? I would understand if it actually counted towards your pilot licence…

Yes, I did enjoy it. The thing is that when you are reaching milestones in the sim (and maybe it’s like a real-life pilot who is tracking their hours in their physical logbook to see how they have progressed from the start) and suddenly it’s gone it just feels… well it sucks.

I agree with IdealTiger. It’s just a number. Sure I would like for it to be accurate. I’d probably be at the 50 hour milestone. However regardless of what the logbook says. I enjoyed those hours flying and my skill is improving.

I understand what both of you are saying. But is it unreasonable to expect that the tracking would be accurate +/- a reasonable information mistake? Yes, I feel my skills have improved and I know that from the start I have progressed in the sim. I don’t know, I guess I’m wasting my time trying to figure out why this happened and also trying to validate my disappointment to others who think I’m stupid for being disappointed.

It’s not just a number at all. There are many things tied to your log book. Past flights that you can fly again, that you may have forgotten about. All the Hobbs stuff is stored in files that seem to reset if you lose it.

Personally I also don’t care about achievements as such but it is cool to be able to look back at past flights for sure.

I still have my full logbook from FSX and there’s some stuff in there that I did to help when doing my flying training irl which is quite sentimental.

And as you may know, a few of us are working on a little app that gives you a chart of your hobbs / hours usage, which is not accurate once your log book has been lost.

I’m definitely an “oh well, never mind, move on”, kind of guy but just saying, it is not just a number.

If it is for you, that’s great. But not everyone is the same.

I don’t think you are being stupid for feeling disappointed. I am just trying to help you come to terms with something that you can’t control. Everyone’s feelings are real and valid. However we shouldn’t dwell on that which we have no ability to change. I like to peruse my logbook. I like to see my hours increase. I don’t like it when my flights don’t get recorded. However I try not to let that get me down. There is nothing I can do but report it.
