I purchased the F35 over a year ago. The HOVER mode used to work. But coming back to the aircraft after many months now, on the ground after a fresh start, I press the HOOK/STOVL button and the aircraft seems to enter the correct ducted configuration, but the HOVER mode isn’t available - it’s neither Red, Cyan, nor White. The aircraft is below 40,000lbs GW.
I do notice something weird though. When I press the HOOK/STOVL button, the cyan colored HOVER option flashes for an instant in the flight control display. I’ve tried a couple different F35B liveries, just in case. I’ve also deleted and reinstalled the aircraft from the content manager. I have several mods, but nothing that I’d think are that wild - like FSLTL, pushback toolbar. I’m using the Airbus TCA stick and throttle quadrant.
Fair question. I also tried resetting the stick and quadrant to defaults. I think the default settings worked fine originally. Unfortunately it’s the only stick I have.
Unplugged both the stick and the quadrant. No change. I feel like something is buggy. When it transfers from EXER mode to STOVL mode, the HOVER option flickers. But, the fact that it can enter STOVL mode at all doesn’t make sense.
I don’t believe that’s true, but I could be wrong.
From a general perspective, a VL landing aircraft needs to be able to VTO. Simply for the Wave Off capability. On a smaller scale, a VLing aircraft must have enough excess thrust to arrest its rate of descent.
So, with thrust and controlability issues aside, it would be, let’s say unusual, for the F-35 to be incapable of a VTO.
Like I said though, could be wrong.
I’ve had a couple of things break with the latest SU. I suspect this might be one if them.
Regarding game feature may be broken after SU13. I used it in summer and the sequence was as usual: Press “STOVL” button → Press screen “HOVER”. Climb and descent were controlled by joystick, speed by trim and throttle was automanaged.
Just for fun, you might try it in the winter…and definitely at Sea Level.
The Harrier was incredibly sensitive to temperature and air density. Or I should say that the Harrier was no more sensitive to those things than any other turbofan.
It was just more consequential.
Some of the guys I flew with flew early day model Harriers in the First Gulf War. It was so hot, and the engines so limited, that they came into the hover on the ship at full throttle.
And only had to waggle the stick a bit to bleed enough air from the compressor to make the jet descend to the deck!
After several restarts and reinstalls of the aircraft, I confirmed that it was not a control or assignment issue. I tested restarting the sim with mouse and keyboard only on default settings - no success.
So I did the next best troubleshooting method.
I started randomly clicking things in the cockpit. Under MENU, when I clicked CRUS, it rearranged the screens on the cockpit display and gave me the cyan HOVER option.
I don’t know why that worked, but the fix is reproduceable, so there you go.
Can someone help me set up HOVER mode on a button on my joystick?
I can only activate it by tapping on the screen and I’d like to assign it a button. Thank you. I play from Xbox and I have a turtlebeach
