In order to make changing settings a bit easier, i’m trying to add the path below to Steam as a game, and then use properities to “Include in VR Library”.
“S:\MSFS2020\Microsoft Flight Simulator 2024\Content\FlightSimulator2024.exe”
Unfortunately, when I try to add the .exe it says I dont have permission, even if I’m on the admin account on my computer (not recommended) because MS store has some sort of over-arching security that says I cant “own” the file.
I’m trying to find out if there’s a way for me to override this, or a text file in steam’s config where I can just edit and drop a text string in alongside DCS and iRacing (which I’ve also configured this way except successfully). It’s just nice not to have to have VR Running but I can still enter the game specific VR settings for MSFS and make tweaks before firing up the game.
Anyone have any ideas here?
If you want to add MSFS 2020 and 2024 (Microsoft Store versions) to Steam, you could go through the trouble of creating custom configuration files inside Steam for each game—but why waste your time? There may also be permission issues with the MSFS executable, which makes UWPHook an even better choice. It’s much easier to just use this small program instead.

I don’t understand what benefits adding MSFS to Steam library would bring? I have MSFS Steam version, but I’m not using Steam interface for anything. Steam is just the distribution channel, it doesn’t provide any benefits or specific configuration capabilities. All the settings are available inside the MSFS.
SteamVR saves resolution on a per headset basis.
I have 6 VR headsets that use SteamVR. I switch between them often. If I need to change the resolution in MSFS then it’s a step I must manually do every time I swap headsets.
If instead I setup each headset to an app (like DCS or VTOL VR). I can switch headsets and never need to change anything, it’ll always stick with my custom settings. For example, on the Meganex I run 4000x4000 on the BSB1 I run 3900x3900 and on the Reverb I run 3550x3550. That’s just 3 of the 6.
Thanks very much, this worked PERFECTLY.
