How do I get a copilot/passenger in the Diamond DA40NG/TDI

Hi Folks,

I have a maybe stupid question: but how can I activate a copilot/passenger on the front right seat of a Diamond DA40 (NG or TDI, I can’t get it working in either of them), so that he/she is visible when I am in cockpit view (aka inside the plane)?

I have added a weight to the front right seat (something over 100lb). I have configured a copilot avatar. Do I need anything else to do?

POV: I have the copilot totally fine woring in the TBM930 with the same method. Just the DA40 would not play nice it seems.

Needless to say, I am talking about the Asobo default aircraft in all cases.

My community folder is empty, running a total vanilla MS2024 install.

Thanks in advance for any help on this topic.

Are you under SU4 ?, there is a new option about passenger quantity, I assume it should be different than OFF to get copilot/passenger to be displayed:

I can get copilot/passengers with the NG.
(note: the copilot avatar is not the one I have defined in my preferences)

But not with the TDI. Maybe it needs to be updated in order to get new FS2024 functionalities ?
(note: the weight is correctly applied for the 4 passengers)

Ah thanks for the hint with the passenger quality option. I am indeed running SU4.
I tried it, but unfortunatly the NG won’t work for me with following settings. Do I miss something else?

Set 100lb, oddly they also won’t show up in the circle diagram on the right.

My character settings seem to align with what you hinted at:

But still no copilot.

But oddly, the TBM 930 with no weight at all for copilot, works:

Using the same settings as yours I can see the copilot:

100lbs:

Do you have any addon liveries for that aircraft ?. If any mods/addons (even if not DA40 related), try disabling them.

This has been discussed here: TBM 930 - How do you turn off the guy sitting next to you?

I can also reproduce the issue:

Even if you can always disable the copilot in the “Customize Identity” section, if you set 0lbs in the EFB, copilot should not appear. From my point of view it is a bug and should be reported in the Bug Reporting Hub > Aircraft & Systems category.

No addons at all, also no liveries installed - even for other aircraft’s … it is very strange, since it is a complete vanilla SU4 beta build.

More so, even my non beta install was vanilla - I never installed any addons on my MSFS2024 instance …

Ok this is strange - for me it is the desired behavior - so it seems I got lucky having this bug

On your TBM 930 screenshot yes we can see the weight is 0 but still can see the copilot. Is that the correct behavior you are referring to ?
From my understanding, if weight is 0, even if you have a copilot avatar defined it should not be displayed.

Ah sorry, this should be a little joke. Of course the behaviour is wrong, and should not display a copilot in that case.

Edit: it was meant in the sense that, although it is a wrong behavior, it was ok for me, since I usually fly with copilot and/or passengers.

Edit2: since the copilot was shown in the first place in the TBM, I never looked into the weights settings and therefore didn‘t know that I have a ultra light copilot with 0kg

I have deleted my rolling cache and now it seems to work. However, it does not use the configured copilot (in the identity configurator) but a random one.

I am not sure if the rolling cache deletion was the solution or that I entered a weight for pilot AND copilot (not only the copilot one). However, when I backed out of the flight and restarted another flight, I suddenly could only enter a weight for the copilot. Very strange. But in both cases I got a copilot, and in both cases a random one.

After another test, it was back to not showing the copilot, but during this test I entered the EFB (already in the aircraft sitting on the apron) and moved the slider for passenger weights to close to 100%, and suddenly 3 passengers appeared. I then was able to delete the passengers in the back row, and the one on the right seat was still there.

A note, maybe important: I noticed the copilot in the TBM (adhering to the configured copilot) does have a headset. The “copilot” in the DA40NG does NOT have a headset –> I assume that in the DA40NG, this is indeed not really a copilot but a random passenger. Under this assumption, it makes sense that the plane does not adhere to the copilot configuration. So as if the sim has planes where it thinks a real copilot makes sense and planes which it thinks are single piloted (what would be true for the DA40NG in most cases). Could that be?

The DA40TDI will not show a copilot/passenger at all. The funny thing is, the TDI does show the passenger weights in the weight circle (in the plane configurator). The DA40NG does NOT show the weights of the passengers – also strange.

I only tested the “Private Charter” versions – not sure what the difference to the default version is.

I retested the TBM and it still displays the copilot without any weight, and it is still the correct one, configured in the identity configurator.

TL;DR: The sim will now display a copilot in the DA40NG Private Charter (tested), but a random one. :man_shrugging: The DA40TDI Private Charter (also tested) will not show a copilot, as already stated above by @DementedCorn327
