How do we manage scenery while FS2020 is running?

OK, going back to FSX, PrePar3D, and X-Plane we had the ability to add or remove scenery while the sim is running. We could then get the sims to re-read the installed scenery. All without quitting the sim.

For example, I was checking out an FW airport upgrade and I wanted to see how the original airport compared to the FW upgrade. I could swap the addon in and out at my leisure.

It was great for cutting down dramatically on the time involved in having to exit the sim, do the scenery task, and then restart the sim.

It seems in FS2020 that you have to quit FS2020, do the ‘scenery’ task, and restart the sim as there is no way to force the sim to re-read the scenery files whilst in-game.

Considering it takes longer to load than a Sinclair ZX81 tape game, it is not fun.

Is there a way around it?

Try editing this file:

C:\Users’USER_NAME’\AppData\Local\Packages\Microsoft.FlightSimulator_8wekyb3d8bbwe\LocalCache\Content.xml

Steam version here.

File not in that location.

I do not know steam folders, sorry
try searching Content.xml in disk where the game is installed

For Steam install: Found at C:\Users\xxxxx\AppData\Roaming\Microsoft Flight Simulator

OK, looks just like ‘scenery.cfg’ in FSX/P3D.

But even with editing the file while in FS2020 (if the sim will allow it) how to force the sim to re-read it without restarting?
