I’ve been searching around and apparently there is a weather radar on the G1000, but I can’t figure out how to access it?
on the console , at the bottom click Map , then click NEXRAD while in the plane
Which airplane? Caravan and Baron are the only 2 with G1000 and an actual weather radar. On the MFD push the MAP softkey button, and then RADAR. Other G1000 aircraft that don’t have an on-board radar, like the Bonanza, can download a NEXRAD XM radar image (simulated) using the NEXRAD softkey.
I press NEXRAD and it highlights but nothing happens.
This is on the stock 172 with the G1000
Weather is sort of in a weird place atm , sometimes it works other times it’s clear skies. But if you click it and weather is working and you have bad weather , it will show up on that radar.
This is also there in the Diamond DA62
Sorry what I mean is, when I press the “NEXRAD” button in the 172, nothing changes on the screen display at all. It just still shows the GPS map.
Ah , yeah if there is no weather around for the radar to see maybe it’s working just that you have clear skies all around you. weather atm buggie
Display on the screen pictured above will change between GPS and weather on the MFD, and Weather will let you switch between a horizontal and vertical display. Vertical also kinda sorta works for terrain avoidance if you’re doing dumb things because hills leave a shadow in the bottom of the display.
