How do you do secondary button actions with VR controllers?

In glass cockpits there are buttons like HDG (heading) where you grab them with the VR controller and you can twist them, but also you should be able to push them for a secondary action. I don’t want to get into the twisting issues, for me the question is how to push them???

I know you can kind of jab at the button with holding the trigger and it can push them, but I don’t like because you have to jab too hard/fast and it often results in some twist input also which for things like a COM button is bad. With the mouse when you move the cursor over a button like this it shows the left mouse icon and says “Hold to lock”, then if you do that you can push the right mouse button (which is assigned as secondary action button) and it will “push” the cockpit button.

When I try setting a VR controller button as the secondary action button, this doesn’t work, it does nothing. Anyone know how to make this work?

Here are some screenshots for explanation in case it’s not clear.

Hover the mouse over the button (gives “hold to lock” option)

Holding left mouse button (if you now push right mouse button then cockpit button is pressed)

Sorry the forum doesn’t seem to let me post the rest of the images. I’ll add them in a reply.

VR controller pointed at button (activating assigned secondary action does nothing):

It’s quite buggy. It works but only if the game has focus and you whiggle the mouse a bit so the mouse cursor comes up. After that the secondary and tertiary actions on the controllers work for a bit (sometimes 10 seconds, sometimes for a few minutes).

Yes, it’s super annoying

Haha “wiggle the mouse a bit” in order to get the secondary and tertiary VR controller actions to work  I would have never thought of that, thank you! I’m not surprised about the variable length of time that it works for- I have “COCKPIT INTERACTION - INCREASE” (and DECREASE) mapped to the thumbstick and sometimes it stops working for a while then will randomly start working again later.

The VR on this game is an extremely good feature for increasing immersion and helps with shaking the rust off of real life flying skills, but it is indeed quite buggy.
