How do you end your flight?

I started asking myself the other day, why do I just shutdown the aircraft at the end of flight and hit exit, when it dawned on me…. “There is more to see around here!”. So I’ve started, after shutting down the aircraft, going into showcase mode and walk away from the aircraft towards the hanger, FBO, up the jetway, etc…. Additionally I now start my flights from outside the airport and “walk” to my aircraft of choice for the flight.

This really aids in the immersion of this amazing simulator we use. I do my flight planning sitting on the couch or in bed, then load up the sim, get everything set up, with the aircraft in position and then I move the showcase camera to my “start spot”. Then, I walk away from the computer for couple minutes, come back, and start my flight.

So, how to do rest of you sim aviators end your flights???

Today I’m flying from Halfmoon Bay (KHAF) to Montgomery Field (KMYF) in Southern California.

I always park, unload passengers / cargo (GSX) and the. Do proper shutdown procedures.

If I’m doing a turn around flight I start getting ready. Otherwise I’ll tour around a bit in the drone if I’m somewhere new.

Abandon the aircraft somewhere near where ATC told me to go then borrow a truck and go back to the runway to collect all the various bits of wreckage after yet another “rough” landing…!

Usually In a ball of orange flame.

Sorry, old instructors joke!! - No C&D, parked at the gate, FBO where ever appropriate. Check the times, fuel on board and maybe go for a sight-see with the drone.

For an airliner, I taxi to gate, shut down engine, sometimes call the stairs or jetway, open door, then quit.

Bizjet, taxi to somewhere, shutdown engine, quit.

I generally don’t do the whole list of shutdown procedures, as I’d rather prep for my next flight if it’s a back-to-back. Or else it’s bedtime and I’m too tired.

That’s a rather good idea Zeanuck. I’ll give that a go over my next few flights. Shutting down the aircraft then coming straight out of a flight does seem to leave a slightly flat feeling. If I remember correctly the latest version of FSRealistic also gives you the option to walk away from your aircraft at the end, though I don’t have that addon yet (assuming this is the addon I’m thinking of).

Occasionally climbing down the tree that the aircraft wrapped itself around on the end of the runway…bit low on the approach and not enough throttle.

Well made it safe and sound to Montgomery Field (MYF) near San Diego.

That’s not me taking the photo.

Oops, someone left the gate open….

Next stop, checking out the big birds…

Snuck on the field for some close ups…. Don’t do this!!!

I generally get about an hour, or at absolute best two, to fly (always GA) so I generally park up, do the full shut down procedure, have a quick look outside to see how many shredded groundcrew surround the aircraft and then pour myself a wee dram. Twelve hours B to T precludes any further activity

After watching the fire crews and ambulances leave the smoking hole I generally go to the fridge get another beer and do it again :scream::scream::scream::scream:

My flight time, (and patience), is usually limited.  (If there was a “Pilot with ADHD” badge, I would have all of them.)

I typically start at the end of the runway, engines running, and take off w/o paying attention to anything else - (all AI & multiplayer disabled) - and head “somewhere”.  (Sound bite: Chuck Berry No Particular Place To Go)

I fly until I have:

  1. Done what I wanted to do and/or explored what I wanted to explore.
  2. Did something stupid and crashed.
  3. Got bored.

The end of the flight is usually announced by:

  1. Hitting the ESC key and quitting to the desktop.
  2. Landing, and then #1.
  3. Crashing, and then #1.
  4. Getting called to dinner, and then . . .

Occasionally, (if I feel really ambitious), I’ll drag out the PMDG DC-6 and start from cold and dark.

Usually, it’s just a pop-on to look at something that isn’t bank statements, tax papers, bills, and etc.

Not the most accurate, but that’s the way it is.

Indeed sir. Unfortunately even in my advancing years we do have a life outside of a fumbling computer generated world. Where do some of these guys get time from.

Depends on the quality of the plane. In the FSW C414 or PMDG DC6 I do proper shutdown procedures, checklist, etc… Maybe I do some screenshots if I got a good parking position.

Last night I took the Blacksquare Baron to Invercargill and parked with an 11 knots tailwind… I pulled the mixture back and the props spun and spun and… spun… and spun… Needless to say that I quit that stuff quite quickly.

I have the following weird problem when shutting down. As soon as I shut down the engine at the end of my flight, the graphics displayed on the screen (in my case G2 VR) goes berserk for a couple of seconds. It’s difficult to describe, but the display seems to be lower in resolution and from a different camera angle. Then after a second or two it is back to normal, except that all the panels (like VR map, ATC comms etc) I opened through the menu bar have disappeared.

Anybody else get that? Can it be avoided?

Wow!

I have never experienced, or even heard of, something that weird.

What system/Graphics card do you use?

Have you turned off all the advanced settings in the driver?  I’ve heard that “advanced” features should be enabled within the game and the driver settings should be the defaults. (This is something you may have to experiment with.)

You may wish to move this thread to the troubleshooting forums, it will get more/better eyes there.

This also happens to me when turning off the aircraft while in VR.

Also happens to me but again in VR only. Latest gaming driver installed, I’ll revert to the Studio driver, which never caused me problems, in case that’s the trouble.

Oups. Had to fix it

Back to the topic, I agree. Moving around with the drone enhance the immersion. Mostly on post flight rather than before starting, because it’s like cheating, visualizing the path before taxiing;)

I pull the power plug for the computer out of the wall socket

But seriously (while maintaining a straight face) I do like to have a good look around the area with the drone cam before departure and again after arrival at my destination. With so many excellent addon airports and sceneries there is much to discover and delight and sometimes little surprises and Easter eggs. Make the most of it, especially if you paid for things
