I’ve made a custom airport, I know how to add my own buildings. But… roads??? I’m not seeing a way to simply add roads, like we would for taxiway. Why?
I’m constructing a new neighborhood (not in satellite imagery yet) next to my airport, and I just don’t know how to add roads. Also seeking tips on how to properly geolocate each building (and road) in such a scenario. (think blank canvas, no visual cues from existing satellite imagery on locations of roads/houses, need to lay out an entire neighborhood with geo accuracy)
wow, I guess this really is not a thing.
About the roads, there is no tool in the SDK suited to place or create proper roads (with traffic on them)
Maybe a Projected mesh with road material could to the trick? Dunno, but worth a try
Otherwise you can simply draw them with polygons, aprons or projected mesh, and skip the traffic until updated road data is pulled for your place
About the other issue, you have not sat imagery, do you have a map? Where does the map come from, maybe OSM or Google?
You can georeference the map image and use it as secondary aerial image.
But anyway you will need to manually place each building manually (don’t expect any autogen) or,
If the place is already define in OSM, you can use Blender OSM addon to build the city from the OSM data
Aprons are the way i draw roads in game its quick and you can easily choose material and paint lines over them.
But if you are building an entire community, you could do it in blender
You can configure taxiway paths as roads. These are specifically airport service roads, with a center dashed line. Not general traffic roads.
Thanks for all the ideas everyone. It does seem like anything I do would be more of a hack than official support.
It would not make sense to add roads as taxiway paths, otherwise the entire neighborhood would be an “airport”.
Yes, I have a plot map, no, it’s not public (not in google, etc). Yes, I plan to model all buildings in Blender and/or other CAD. But… Geoplacing these things in the SIM, WITH their respective roads… doesn’t sound too easy, if doable at all.
I can model things to scale outside of MSFS. The problem with most/all CAD tools is they have a max size. You can’t model an ENTIRE town 3 miles wide, even if all you draw is a line. It’s too big for the max canvas. And even IF I did that, I still would have an elevation/terrain issue trying to get this to render properly in the Sim.
