How do you strike a blance between CPU & GPU usage?

Hi Everyone,
I am using DLSS in the Sim with my Wide Screen MSI Optix MAG341CQ 3440 x 1440 monitor

I upped my Screen Resolution, from the Native setting of 3440 x1440 to the highest setting of 5160 x 2160, which improved the " Glass Screens " to around 90% of the original sharpness and was very usable.
Just lately I tested the difference in framerate between Ultra/High and it’s only 3-4 frames, so I am very happy continuing with Ultra, see pics below.

In those images below it says I am limited by Main Thread ( or is everyone Limited?)

My question is, which settings could be altered in the Sim to balance my PC, and maybe lower the pressure on the CPU?
I want to keep the 5160 x 2160 setting because the 3440 x1440 image is poor with DLSS.

1, Possibly one of the 3 slider options?
2, Or alter some of the Ultra settings?

Can you please provide cropped images of the Developer Mode FPS views, as it is not possible to read the numbers due to compression of the large images you have posted. eg like:

Hi resetXPDR
Sorry about that, they’re not very clear as the high res makes them quite small on the screen.
Are these any good?

Yes you are CPU limited at either detail level, but only just. If you want to tip the balance towards being GPU limited you could reduce Terrain LOD, which is the one that has the most effect on CPU load, but I would only do this if you are experiencing stutters and this actually improves it.

Overall, I’d say your settings are close to being optimally balanced as they are.

Cheers ResetXPDR, will give that a go later tonight.

Upon a closer look (still a bit hard to read), and seeing the last image you must have posted up while I was replying to you, you are actually GPU limited in all scenarios, and even then only slightly at high. As such, I wouldn’t touch anything.

I see that, it looks like it does switch between Main-thread and GPU. Just lately I have been looking at an AMD Ryzen 5900X or the 5800X3D looks like it will be swings and roundabouts regarding what to upgrade first.

thanks for the help
Cheers

High traffic settings hurt the cpu also and to a small extent windshield effects and glasscockpit refresh rate … But in my opinion the only graphics setting you need to set to high is clouds, the rest have a lesser effect and can be left at ultra … My spec is not much different to yours although I don’t have widescreen. R73800X, rtx3060

The obvious upgrade is the X3D athough I suspect it needs at least a 3070 to do it justice (which is why I’m holding off until prices drop).

I agree it’s a lot of cash for Socket AM 4.

If your system is well balanced between GPU and CPU, as it appears to be now, then upgrading just your CPU will only serve to make your system GPU bound, as the GPU will then become the bottleneck and therefore result in minimal overall performance increase. To noticably improve an already-balanced system, you need to upgrade both the GPU and CPU, and that gets very expensive.
