How do you use thrust reverse on a controller?

During the cert for turboprops I was told to press “RB+B” to use reverse thrust. It seemed to work when I tried it, but I’m really not sure how its actually used.

Does pressing “RB+B” toggle between forward and reverse thrust? As in I tap “RB+B” then when I hold “B” it will start reversing the thrust?

If that is the case, how can I tell if I have toggled reverse thrust on or off?
