I have been looking for a way to always start the sim from my last location/setup and I think I found it. I have a dedicated PC that does nothing but run the sim. I configured the power switch to put the PC to sleep instead of powering it off. Here is my procedures.
When I’m done flying I follow shutdown checklist for the 172 G1000 aircraft I fly. Then I close out Mobiflight, Air Manager, and Voice Attack. I then press the PC power switch which puts the PC in sleep mode.
To start back up again I press the PC power switch and wait till all 5 monitors are up and verify I’m right where I left off. I also wait for a minute for the Internet connection to be established and the offline messages to go away. To bring it to the correct local time and date I turn off auto weather and adjust the time manually to any time. Then I click real time and real weather to get everything set current. I then launch and start MF, Air Manage, and Voice Attack. Verify all is working and enjoy another flight.
I have had this successfully working now for two weeks. I left it for two days and started up right where I left off. Makes for a much better experience.
why not save as a file to WhereILeftOff.FLT ? Ive done this once or twice when i couldnt finish a longer plan. you dont need to quit the sim, you could still do your pc sleep thing, but you could. plus this will survive reboots, windows updates, power outs etc.
My trial confirms that procedure is working properly. Even without closing Air Manager.
Alle the apps I regularily use like Air Manager, LittleNavMap, Navigraph Charts, Spacedesk, StreamDeck can be left running and will recover from ‘sleep mode’ and all equipement unpowered.
I have observed that
MSFS: I need to ‘Resume’ after wards
Spacedesk: I need to move the window back to the remote display
Otherwise I had no issues. Just need to power up the peripheral hardware in the right order.
In ‘sleep mode’ (or Hibernate as it was called earlier) there will be no reboots, updates. And power outs have no effects as the whole state is saved on disk. I did have power cut to the equpiment for 2 hours without issues.
