I’d not recommend anything under 16 GB. If you plan to fly to / from large, complex airports or fly complex airliners like those from inbuilds & PMG, or use DX12, 16GB will help lot. See the second paragraph in this post by @Tremaine111 :
I went from a 3060ti to a 4070 Super recently… def saw improvements and was able to increase quite a few of the settings. Things like complex scenery and aircraft are still taxing, as well it does not eliminate all of the other little issues when the software just doesn’t run efficiently. However, overall I’m pleased with the increases in performance but they are not massive by any means.
That said if I had it to do over, I would really consider the 4070ti Super and spend the extra money for t…
Other comments on the forums about having 16 GB include:
I would definitely go with the 7800XT as it has 16Gig of Vram and the 4070 only has 12Gig. MSFS loves Vram in DX12 and it helps provide a smoother sim experience. Not only is the 7800XT a little cheaper but it also slightly outperforms the 4070 - see review below.
AMD 7800XT vs Nvidia 4070
and
What GPU did you get? AMD is still behind in technological advancements. One of the main reasons I still go with NVIDIA.
Nvidia implementation of FG works great if not better than AMD’s offering as long you maintain native 60fps.
The 4070super biggest problem is the VRAM otherwise any Nvidia 40x with 16gb >> AMD 16gb but that’s likely outside your budget!
