How long does it take? I changed mine from 48gb to 100gb but it’s stuck on the “resizing manual cache” window for like 45 minutes now. On a 1TB 5600 RPM HDD.
it is done when the folder location reaches the size you set it to, go to the cache Folder, right click properties and check its size, then you have a aprox time when it will be done.
I’ve found that manual cache gets nearly unusable if you put too much into it no matter how much hard disk you allocate. As each new area gets added, the speed of entry of new data goes down exponentially. Zooming and dragging on the map becomes interminably slow to the point of it nearly being unusable. My suspicion is that the view of the world map is not limited just to the area you are zoomed into and somehow all your other areas are getting redrawn every time you do a screen action. The selections such as the area name, finish and download, etc ignore your mouse clicks unless you zoom far enough out that selection boxes are no longer visible. The manual cache is a wonderful thing. It so speeds up the program in high resolution areas but it looks as though the entry screen was an afterthought or rushed out. I’m certain this can all be optimized.
Some tricks if you get to where I’m at. When lagging severely, if you click on a square, let your cursor sit until it is truly selected. Then you can drag and it works. Once you’ve added all your areas you wish to cache, zoom far out until you see no more grid. Then you can select choices in the menu boxes.
It’s initializing the file and thus actually writing 52GB to the disk. Will take a while on a slow HDD.
