How many more Continents will there be for the Major Updates?

Hi there,
I am just curious, how many more Major Updates will there be for the MSFS 2020? Any help is greatly appreciated. TIA.

It was my understanding that 2 more World Updates were due in 2021 with a further 6 in 2022.

Where exactly they all are, I don’t know.

Every 2 months but not by continent.

Thank you for correcting me…

We can only speculate, MS/Asobo will decide where the new goodies come from ! Maybe the moment(s) when good DEM data becomes available, will decide the order of events ? suppose some nice bundles could be put together, containing,

  • Indonesia, Australia, New Zealand
  • Russia and Eastern Europe
  • South East Asia
  • South Korea, Philippines and Taiwan
  • Middle America
  • South America
  • Israel, Jordan, Arabic Peninsula
  • Marocco, Tunesia, Egypt
  • Sub-Sahara Africa
  • China…

Some good suggestions there, though they tend to do regions with similar/homogenous architecture so " Indonesia, Australia, New Zealand" is probably too varied and I suspect all of South America or all of SE Asia is a big ask, especially for the mesh upgrades.

You’re right, sofar… but MS did a lot of densely populated regions sofar, where buildings and cities are of major importance. For Australia, a lot of these cities in that region are already available in Marketplace. All three I’ve named involve work on nature scenery… checking and correcting things, apply water masks and refine ground textures. I’ve put it on top, because I prefer such new things, actually…

Agree… very big bundles… maybe split South America in Ecuador and Brazil (Amazon region) and the rest. Separate Thailand and India… like they did with Japan… Would be interesting to see India, Nepal and the Himalaya. It would be great to have a 10m DEM for that. Brace for inpact, it will be 80GB or so…

Yep the 10m Orbx NZ addon made a huge difference (in spite of some people saying it was a waste of money and they could not see any difference) especially some of the bush strips that suddenly acquired “interesting” terrain features on approach that were just flat bushland before.

…and then start over. Keep improving…

Indeed… not a bad idea to do the US again (devil smiley  )

Id like MS/Asobo to focus on more general scenery stuff actually… photogrammetry improvemts, trees… weather and cloud variation… turbulence and vertical airflow… small rivers and streams… things that will improve scenery everywhere you fly.

They addressed this in a recent dev Q&A livestream. So, as others have already said in this thread, there will continue to be World Updates in the same format as the ones we’ve already had, for the rest of this year and next. Their goal for these is to loop around the world at least once (maybe more for some places), so most regions should get an update.

Alongside/after this, they plan to improve broader/more general aspects with World Updates that are not necessarily focused on a particular region.

A pound to a penny the last on your list is exactly when the Bing satellite will suddenly experience technical difficulties and burst into flames

Based on their Developer update we can expect Brazil and Italy in 2022, and if you read between the lines, Korea too. That would leave October 2021, December 2021, and 3 updates next year we still do not know where they will be.

You can hear some official information on future world updates here:
