MSFS is actually inspiring me to go back and finish my PPL. Last time I flew a real airplane was about 18 years ago. If all goes well, I’ll pick it back up again in March.
Same here plus RAF Aircrew, but not pilot.
Yes here too. 20 years flying. No wonder so many of us want more realistic avionics…!
Soloed in 1978 at the age of 38. Been flying sims only since 1988.
This is what makes Simming more than a game, the fact so many real world aviators shape the virtual world and build expectations.
BTW when I was controlling with VATSIM I was fascinated to find that 2 of my trainers and one person I would consider a mentor were real world controllers.
I fly gliders. Got my LAPL(S) couple years ago
This is probably one of few occupations with which you make a living and at the same time pursue as a hobby…
Private Pilot with Instrument Rating, 35 year Airline Mechanic. Have lots of Experience on aircraft systems, Qualified on B737,B757,B727,Md80,DC-10, and F100. Got questions on how some systems work, or the aircraft in general, feel free to ask.
Hey CaptainSkippy! Sorry for the delayed response, I was at Comair from 1994 until they ceased ops in 2012. You?
I have a PPL-A(N), GPL and a Luftfahrzeuggeräteführerschein, dont know the english Version.
I have been a glider pilot for 16 years and have been involved in flightsimming since 1996.
I fly the Duo Discus but it’s not me in the picture.
Cheers, Marc
Great combination, happy landings
If a pilot in training counts Im still learning and resuming my training later on in the year hopefully in a Cessna 152 or 150 I’ve got one logged hour in a Cessna 172 N and I’ve flown (not logged) a Piper Cherokee PA180 Cessna 172S and Piper Warrior II currently my favorite aircraft I’ve flown has to be the Warrior II, and Microsoft flight simulator 2004 a century of flight also got me into aviation in the first place and I keep watching the aim air blogs
I’m pilot in Brazil.
I flu B737-300/ATR500-600/A320 (Family).
Today i’m flying 737-700/800NG
One nephew and my brother are real A320 pilots, I asked them to try MSFS and they were amazed!
My brother taught me to fly and navigate in FS 20 years ago and he taught me to fly the A320 in this sim.
PPL with IFR (Restricted).
Self rentals became too pricey with the clubs currency checks, all the more so at EGKB.
Just how many times can you fly to Lydd or Shoreham for tea and biscuits, and still call it interesting and good value?
For example, I took the kids out to White Waltham where we enjoyed soft drinks and cookies in the sunshine. After returning home, on asking, I was fold that the most memorable part of the day was eating the cookies!
I knew in an instant that it was time to stop.
It’s a bit the same here (and I imagine for everyone flying for the travel aspect)… a full day rental here is at about 450EUR per day (for an archer II, a dakota that can actually take 4 people is 550-600 per day).
This applies regardless if you fly or not, it’s at least 450 per day (unless you fly more than 2 hours per day, then of course you pay by the hour which is more expensive).
So for a trip that’s worthy of the name (2 days only of course) you’re looking at 1000EUR+ (plus the added fuel costs vs home base) without food or accomodation, which makes you do this exactly once per year (if at all).
If you want to take the family on a 4day long weekend, well do the maths.
A reality check really, I could easily have a 5day trip including food/drinks/hotel to some much better destination for that 2day price.
Unless you’re filthy rich this is where the love of flying comes in (since it isn’t practical at all for travel for most of us), either you want it and spend the money, or you don’t
a very tough call… The longer you do it the more difficult it becomes to justify
Been flying for 50 years and flight simming, in one way or another, for 49 years (started in the T-37 and T-38 Links in Pilot Training). Air Force, Airline and GA.
I am a real Private Pilot, going to Embry-Riddle. Also Remote Pilot (sUAS) too.
