How many people have FS2024 but still choose FS2020?

Im scared to think when they start sending madmen on mars in the same manner… :exploding_head::face_with_peeking_eye:

After todays SU update - i’ll be moving back to 2020. Annoying but apparently my 4090 isn’t good enough to get the sim smooth in VR. 2020 had no issues with this so im literally uninstalling 24 and installing 2020 now.

The pre-SU2 version was completely unplayable in VR for me, even with my RTX 4080 Super (using default scenery and default Max), so I’m still stuck with MSFS2020 that runs butter-smooth with 3rd party sceneries and PMDG airplanes. I’m frustrated that it remains unplayable, especially since most developers will soon stop supporting MSFS2020.

Last night decided to give 2024 another go following the release of SU2 which I’ve been waiting for as I’ve not been part of the beta.
I’ve been doing my flying in 2020 as I fly 100% of the time in VR with a PCL headset & its been smooth & flawless. So, as SU2 was released & both sims are installed on my PC anyway I thought it was time to give 2024 another go. After all, in the past weeks there seemed to be no shortage of content creators on YouTube saying how good the beta was looking & running.

Well, once I installed the update I got to say it left me feeling a bit disappointed to say the least & to my eye seemed to be performing worse than before the update. I think if your running it on a monitor then yes its probably fine but to me in VR its just not worth bothering with. I do have a 4K monitor but just can’t go back to flying in 2D. Not only that I noticed my Tobii 5 still does not appear correctly in the controls settings.

So after a few good hours trying to get a smooth & good looking flight out of it I decided that’s it, I’ll be sticking to 2020 for the foreseeable. It just works its as simple as that for me. As time is precious I just don’t want to waste anymore time tinkering with settings in order to get it to work & look right. With 2020 I just fire it up and fly, not only that the scenery in 2020 still looks way better than 2024.

After the last and final Beta 2 update i switched back to the release version.
After restart of my PC and start of MSFS2024 i saw that i lost all my personal view settings.
I have to restore my backup files to get this settings back.

I tried some flights, but don’t see any major improvements.
The only thing i experience is when i use BATC that i get CTD’s in flight.

Bye, bye MSFS2024 for now. :-1:
I switched back to MSFS2020 and made some good and stable flights. :+1:

Good to know that you can back up settings. I never knew that. On it!!

Doesn’t look good.

I installed my Arrow III from Just Flight and tried to make a flight. I wasn’t even able to board the aircraft. Pressing Shift-C did nothing, also left clicking “Shift + C Enter aircraft” just did nothing.

I’ll fire it up sometimes to see if some of my MP aircraft made it natively to MSFS2024, but else I’ll wait for SU3.

Decided to give 2024 a quick try in VR this morning. Still spawns in the back seat of the DA40, the mouse isn’t properly interacting with the cockpit (floating too far away from most controls; maybe a side effect of having to move the view to get back to the correct seat), couldn’t get rid of the toolbar, and 90% of the Grand Canyon didn’t download so it looked terrible.

Uninstalled and back to 2020.

I do, because of Chaseplane !

I don’t enjoy beta testing, so I stick with MS 2020.

I spawn floating above all my aircraft and the controls to get in the aircraft don’t work. I see, press NUM 0 to reset pilot view. I press it and nothing changes.

I absolutely agree. The introduction of 2024 has served XBSX users particularly poorly. We’re the red-haired stepchild of the PC version, embarrassingly overgrateful for any tidbit of care or attention the devs ever show us (not often, and not much).

I have both 2020 and 2024 on my XBSX. Because they didn’t include A.I. Pilot from 2020 in 2024, it was effectively DOA for me as viable entertainment (because flying with A.I. Pilot was a core gameplay loop for me in 2020). This is a great shame and a baffling omission. It has also meant I won’t spend money on add-ons for 2024.

I still mostly fly 2020, if I fly at all. 2024 seems to have left such a bad taste in my mouth that I’d rather not bother with either.

I had the same, but with the latest Beta 3 the sim makes a step forward.
It’s not yet on the same level of performance as the 2020 version is, but it’s getting better.
The Scenery and Aircraft download option helps the performance going up and reduces the stutters.

Somewhat true.

However, the other big impetus for change is knowing that there is another competitive (well more than one) sim market (e.g. XP12). I’m aware it’s a minor market currently but if there isn’t a better or, at least competitive product, it’s going to get bigger.

Also, MSFS2024 is far from free or even cheap so I think that if they don’t improve it and make it workable it might be a breach of something or other. Such is the problem when a big name like Microsoft ties their name to a piece of software, they are dragging the whole company’s name into the thing. If it doesn’t work well then it’s big-time mud in their face. This isn’t a third party piece of freeware that if it sucks, it sucks. This is a major investment and backing for Microsoft. Finally, the premise that you won’t get better because you might already be good, doesn’t fly completely. Have you ever been told by a colleague, friend, boss, or co-worker that they think you’re good at a particular thing? Chances are that motivated you to do that particular thing even better. It’s human nature. It’s that old adage: “if you tell someone they’re stupid enough times, they’ll end up being stupid”. This is nothing new. So, when Asobo fixes their product it’s like Ford making a mandatory recall… it’s not because they want to, it’s because they have to. If I were Asobo, I’d rather be in a position that I’m making improvements to make the best, better.

Here’s a reason why I choose 2020 over 2024. These two pictures are from Quito airport. I’ve never been there, but my best friend is from there. I think the ones from 2020 look real and from 2024 look fake, especially when it comes to a natural field of view and mountains in the distance and tree lines as well. You can tell me what you think. There is just something unnatural about 2024. I can’t put my finger on it.

2020

And 2024

My friend also agrees with me 2020 looks more natural and real.

It looks a lot better

From those screenshots I would say 2024 looks more realistic

I agree with that xbox users have better stability with 2020. I bought 2024 aviator edition and after 5 months pushed microsoft for a full refund. I got.the refund. Explained that after 2 years of dealing with 2020 xbox delays and stability issues, i had no interest in starting again with 2024. So i will just wait to year end or next year to consider 2024, once xbox users start to praise it vs criticize it.

Me 2!
Main reason: MANY activities still not done in 2020! (freeware and paid for)

MSFS2024 will crash CTD 100% of the time - initially, mid flight (-30 minutes into it) or on landing. I have graphics turned down to medium and have empty Community Folder

MSFS2020, I have 100 addons, graphics maxed out - same computer that MSFS2024 is on (13900K CPU - 4090 card) and I never get 1 CTD. Yet, like a dummy, I keep trying to load up MSFS2024 and hope the CTD just goes away - butit doesn’t.
