For me personally my go to airplane has always been business jets like the Longitude. In FS2024 this plane is broken with no working lights.
I also like to do long flights. When i get up to 45,000 for the long hall part i will often go to 4x sim rate. Something I have been doing for decades in flight sim. Long before FS10 or FS2020.
Sadly if i do this in FS2024 when the world time is not moving faster and fuel burn is not going faster. So I will land early in game time with way more fuel and weight than I should.
So for my use FS2020 is working much better sadly than FS2024. I have been using FS since the Commodore 64. And I never recall wanting to play the old version once the new one was released.
I am sure in time FS2024 will get fixed and the fundamental bugs will be resolved. But for me right now FS2020 still works better.
NEW: When I first made this post I didn’t know STEAM stats existed.
Look like almost 2X more people are playing FS 2020 than FS 2024.
I fly mainly VR and even tho some things in 2024 is better (in my opinion) such as the ground, terrain/mountains close up, lighting/clouds and the flight model, I’m not even close to reach the same quality and performance in 2024 as I am in 2020 in VR. So I stick to 2020 for now
Much the same here + 2024 is simply unstable and CTD’s all too frequently. If it was not for that I would probably spend more time into 2024 even with all the bugs and unfinished features.
What are your specs? I want to buy FS2024 sometime in the next months and I have just above satisfactory performance in 2020, in most cases. Sometimes its worse.
Nothing particularly fancy by today’s standards: i7-11700KF, 32GB DDR4-3600, RTX 4070 Ti Super. I typically run 1440p, TAA and using frame gen. I can run my preferred PMDG or iFly aircraft + complex sceneries in FS2020 at 30+ FPS in FS2020 without frame generation, but only if I don’t use any AI or 3rd party traffic. If I use FSLTL or BATC, my frames drop into the upper teens to mid-20’s without frame gen.
By contrast, in FS2024, with a boatload of AI or BATC traffic, I run 32 - 45 fps without frame gen at those same complex sceneries. I expect I’ll lose ~5-6 fps in a PMDG aircraft as compared to the Asobo MAX or 787-10 once they are available for FS2024.
Yeah so I am running RTX 3060, Ryzen 7 5700G, 16 gigs RAM, in 1080p, using TAA and I get around 30 fps on the ground in 2020 in complex airliners, but sometimes between 20-25 in heavy photogrammetry regions. If 2024 gives even 10 fps more (I believe my 3060 can do better, I need a CPU upgrade) then I will be happy to get it once it is stable and my favorite planes are compatible.
I bought MSFS (both of them) to enjoy flying, so I went back from 2024 to 2020 to do just that: flying, It’s great in 2020, all my 3rd party purchases work, the planes are excellent.
2024 will no doubt be better, in due course.
Interesting topic here. I have actually been pondering such a question for a few days now. Not for the users but more so for Asobo. For me I have been trying to make FS2024 work but whenever I go back to FS2020 the performance is unmatching. Yes there are a few things FS2024 has done better, but I think there are a lot more issues in return that have come up. The good things about the new sim are far less than the issues that have been created. It’s truly nice to have a walk-around feature now. Also it seems like points of interest( Grand Canyon, other mounumets, etc., and clouds) look better as well as the grass along the runways and especially on grass strips. There are other other good things and this isn’t a bashing for MSFS2024. It’s a legitimate topic. But the Photogrammetry areas have all regressed. I almost want to turn them off. There are stutters on landing(someone else did a video on this). There are trees EVERYWHERE. The interfaces have been changed so drastically that it’s placed a steep learning curve on everything now. I still can’t use the IFR planning tool because I keep getting an error that my XBOX account hasn’t been logged into, yet I’m able to play the game. I have researched the forums and the internet all to no avail. So the question is, what was Asobo trying to accomplish? Was it to make our total flightsim experiences better? Was it to give us more missions? If more missions are the case, then they have 100% succeeded. If it’s to truly teach us about earning ratings, unfortunately they have fallen short. Within some of the missions they have you flying the wrong altitudes for the designated headings. Also flying into the clouds without proper ATC clearances, flying incorrect traffic patterns, flying too close to stall speeds to get “A” grades, and so on. A real life instructor would fail the students by the standards this sim expects. Are they wanting to attract gamers that don’t know better or were they looking to hone the skills of true, real world pilots?? So it seems as though our MSFS 2020 was taken away to add for more of a gaming audience?? This game is stuck in beta. It has a long ways to go. I feel we should have been forewarned that is was far from completion and then given the option to purchase now, or wait until it was further along towards completion. But this game was released with far greater issues than we all suspected so that lends me to ask Asobo, what was their mission for releasing MSFS 2024?
I find FS2024 very frustrating to fly. Every part of it seems to have bits that are broken. However, I spent a lot of money on it, so I don’t feel I can ditch it completely.
On the other hand, when I run FS2020 I feel so much more comfortable. Despite all its faults, it runs faster, it is more stable, and the scenery is not that different from FS2024, especially while aloft.
So I still fly both simulators - FS2020 for enjoyment and to remind myself what a simulator can be, and FS2024 to make sure I get my money’s worth, and in expectation of a greater simulator to come (eventually).
I’m flying both. MSFS for Multiplayer and with planes, that are not working/avaialbe in 2024.
MSFS2024 for short flights, with smaller plane, which work up to 80%
Truthfully I have both and find myself using 2024 more than 2020 now. Yes there are some issues but for the most part for me it runs pretty pretty good.
I use 2024 and I like it, the first week was just work and learn, but now it’s OK and I am sure it will go better and better.
With 2020 was the same, I got it from the first day and it was also several weeks before it was usable.
I have not used 2020 since 2024 was available.
