How to activate cursor on G1000

I’ve just started using the 172 with G1000 glass cockpit, on the right MFD display, how do you activate the cusor to scroll the map?

The videos i have watched just show to left click the knob but that does nothing on my one?

Also, when you spawn in mid-flight does it always start with AP engaged?

Yes and the game describes how to use the controls if you get out of legacy mode and enable tooltips/descriptions.

Hmm, not heard of legacy mode??

I turned tooltips off a long time back, guess i’ll have to pop them on again then

Sorry I missed the xbox tag in your title. I am thinking how it works on PC.

You can still use Lock mode with Tooltips. No need to get out of Lock mode.

Hmm, ok whats lock mode??

Lock mode and Legacy mode are two different ways of interacting with controls. Lock mode was introduced when MSFS came out on Xbox. I think it may be default or the only option on Xbox. Legacy mode is the way people used to interact with the controls and requires a mouse.

I am on PC but still prefer Lock mode.

To activate the cursor I think you click on the inner knob

That is what i do but it does not bring up the cursor on the map?

Are you sure it’s highlighting the inner knob?

You may want to watch a quick video on YouTube about the G1000. A video will probably explain faster than we can in words.

LOL, i’ve watched about 8 videos this evening all on the G1000

They all show just highlight the middle knob and left click but…

That’s it. If this doesn’t work you may have to ask people in one of the dedicated G1000 threads.

I only started using this on Xbox last night, bit fiddly, think I Left clicked hold inner wheel then add right click then pull the cursor/knob to the edges of the screen up/down/ left/ right to move map etc,but it is awkward. Also your 2nd question, mine always air spawns in autopilot ,just steep right bank to disconnect it.

Thanks, yes i discovered the awkward left click hold then right click function today

I love it. It’s only awkward at first, then you get used to it, then you see how useful it is to avoid misclicks and uncommanded zooms.
