How is it possible to actually clean-install this game?
I’ve tried deleting the configs from AppData and from Steam and disabling the Steam Cloud. On starting the game again I was happy to see it walk me through the setup prompts including choosing a graphics setting, selecting online features on or off, etc.
But then I get into the control settings, and I see my old Keyboard control profile still there! I’m going to rip my hair out. How do I get a real, no potentially corrupt ■■■■ from before, honest to God clean install of this game.
Following this guide, is the expectation that after the “clean” install I will not have any remnants of the old install, including that I will not have any remnants of old control profiles or settings of any kind?
That’s the process I’ve followed, and my controller profiles are still here. I’m not sure which cloud service (Steam or Microsoft Account) is responsible for restoring them, but I’m trying to narrow down the case for the USB connect/disconnect bug and I can’t get rid of it for my keyboard. Deleting all the control profiles for every other USB device has left me in a state where I can connect or disconnect them at will without crashing the sim. My keyboard however still hangs the sim for 15-20 seconds on reconnect, and I can’t be sure I’ve gotten rid of old profiles because they still exist even after this “clean” install.
Step 5) Consider accomplishing Step 4 by leaving Steam Cloud enabled, deleting the files, and starting MSFS with the internet disconnected.
Step 6) Observe that you cannot start a clean install of MSFS with the internet off or it eats itself, freezes, and crashes.
Step 7) Return to Step 4, attempt to clean Steam Cloud files that way. Maybe do a 2nd reinstall of the day.
Step 8) Begin to suspect that even after “deleting” a file from the Steam Cloud directory for a game, it will add old versions of non-duplicate files back in.
Step 9) Because each control profile is a separate file in the directory, they just keep coming back like zombies.
Step 10) Disable steam cloud across all games and hope nothing re-enables it.
Step 11) Delete MSFS, the AppData folder, and the User profile folder. Clean install again.
Step 12) I’ll let you know in 4 hours, but maybe I’ll be able to toggle a USB hub without crashing the game.
I dont know if this will help you but I couldnt do a clean re-install until I deleted the entire Microsoft Flight Simulator folder from my c:\users\my username\appdata\roaming folder
for me it is finally reinstalling.
i have the same problem from the fix update the control not responding incuding keyboard,i reinstalled my computer and when reinstalled the simulator i have the same settings before its possible this? microsoft save this settings in any cloud? hoy reset all setting?
Did anyone find the fix for this? I was having controller issues and stability issues, so I reinstalled windows (clean, setup as new), installed stream, then MSFS and when it launched it didn’t walk me through the initial setup and all my settings restored.
ALSO, it appears the content for world updates and others weren’t installed by default?
