If you Don’t want 1.9.3.0 !.
Just unplug or disable your internet connection, then start the MSFS, and wait for the main menu. Reenable your internet connection and select World Map. Check that you can see clouds on the earth when zoomed out. If not, hit the escape key and repeat until you see some weather. I"m amazed that this solution does not appear to have been covered before!
Update: I discovered today that even to I have prevented my sim from updating, it is now reporting version 1.9.3.0. To be clear, the Content Manager still shows that updates required.
When I initially loaded it today, it asked me to insert a disk (Microsoft store version). So I had to go online long enough to allow the the DRM checks. I then disconnected the internet before the version check started, and then reconnected at the main menu. So far, it appears to be working okay, i.e., no skyscrapers in villages etc.
You need check some topics what can be hard to find. On other side some very special users mentioned not functionality in case of different versions of sim heh
This is excellent. I can easily roll back to my backup of 1.7.13 and confirm that all my current problems with pauses, lower quality texture, LOD and water effects are not my imagination.
Thanks for the tip.
BTW, all Asobo need to do is put a “Skip 'Till Next Time” button on the update screen to achieve the same thing.
It might not be a responsible thing to do given that MSFS is server dependent.
I wouldn’t want to do anything that might risk having even a slight impact on another user.
In any case, if I was coding this system I’d be doing a version check when the local sim connects.
But then, I would also build in the ability to cope with a mismatch and give the user a choice whether to update or not. Especially if I was getting negative feedback for my current updates.
Each release has built in non-functionality. It’s a question of which is worse, a patch with significant issues vs perhaps some multiplayer issues. It should be the users choice to postpone updates, at least until they can fix the errors.
Sometimes it’s better to wait before leaping in with both feet! Same with Windows 10 updates! The 1.9.3.0 update is a shambles imho.
User posted his info that he discovered something that wasn’t still published. I’ve answered that this is known and users already found this as workaround, nothing more.
If I DISABLE the internet and start MSFS, I am presented with a pop-up that tells me to Insert Disc.
On my PC, it is impossible to start MSFS without an active internet connection.
I do not have any of the updates available after 09/15 since that is the time the HURRICANE SALLY hit us and Took out our MEDIACOM Internet.
It has been out since 09/15/20. Needless to say, I am having MSFS Withdrawal.
I am viewing the forum with a phone tether which is not suitable for the sim.
Mediacom refuses to bring in outside assistance to help restore their cable system. That is a prime example of Corporate Greed.
You have to go online long until the DRM checks are complete, just make sure you’re offline before it checks for updates and then you’ll be ok. Also make sure that automatic updates are disabled in Microsoft Store. See my updated original post.
I may try that approach. I’ll make sure I have a good backup before doing anything.
I do not want to corrupt the entire system by trying to stop before updates start.
Thanks for the reply
