I’ve got that VPN but there’s no way it’s going to handle the other data needed to run the sim
It is relevant because most end users don’t know what’s happening between them and a resource on the Public Internet.
If I was defending MS, there would much easier ways to lay blame at the feet of ISPs or even national telcos. But clearing the air around “Why does it work if I use a VPN” is important - it exposes an ongoing battle over digital resources that ultimately will impact everyone’s access if not addressed.
works well
Doesn’t a VPN just make EU people connect to US servers by default then? Isn’t it enough to change the server in the simulator? Um it doesn’t work for me but on facebook groups people write that it’s enough for them…
Thanks for the confirmation.

Asobo should fix it not a VPN but thanks… I will and wont fly until this problem get fixed
Yes, Proton works well… started to test with it yesterday.
This sounds like what happens for me (Boston, USA) about half the time this last week or so without using a VPN.
FWIW, on multiple occasions I’ve been able to use Cloudflare WARP to fix content manager downloads that had slowed to a crawl – there’s zero doubt in my mind that ISP-level throttling of MSFS traffic does happen in some contexts – but on the other hand I highly doubt that’s what happening here with the weather issues, as it in no way explains why people are randomly seeing old METARs from two specific dates (1/25 and 2/2).
I see occasional problems connecting to the MSFS servers. My internet connection goes via my own server in a well-connected datacentre in London. There is no possibility that it is being affected by traffic shaping or any other throttling
Sometimes when MSFS has claimed there a connectivity issue, I’ve tried doing a speedtest from the same PC.
This shows that there is no connectivity issue. The problem is at the other end, or it is within the sim software
Last week’s issue that was affecting Live Weather has been resolved
