I encountered my first DME ARC approach and I had no clue what I was supposed to do. Fortunately I was able to switch to Vectors ILS.
I would like to know how to to a DME/ARC approach as it caught me completely off guard coming into the Bahamas.

That is fine. I was not sure where I should put it.
John and Martha King have been around “almost” as long as I have! But they still produce excellent videos on almost all aviation aspects. Here’s one they did on DME ARC approaches. Flying one by hand is definitely old school and somewhat difficult for newer fliers to visualize. The concept it easy, but like a lot of things, there’s shortcuts to help you fly one (check out “turn and twist” method…now that’s OLD school!).
The Garmins are more than capable of flying one easily, but if you want to visualize what they’re doing, take a look at this video:

Good 'ole turn 10 twist 10.
When you get round to flying the DME Arc by hand it’s a good idea to practice first with no wind. The changing direction of the breeze can have a really disruptive effect as you make your way around the arc, very frustrating for someone trying to learn the technique.
I will give the vid a look-see.
