How to get FPS counter in VR (Reverb G2 - WMR)

Hi all,

I got my hands on a 6800 XT today so I can finally use my Reverb G2 I got just before Christmas.

I’m having trouble getting a FPS counter in the game, which I need so I can tune my graphics settings.

Things I’ve tried:

  • FS2020 FPS counter (in dev options), Steam FPS counter, MSI Afterburner overlay, AMD Radeon overlay don’t display FPS in VR mode.
  • OpenXR overlay doesn’t display FPS (and is so small I can barely read it)
  • fpsVR doesn’t display in FS2020. I can get fpsVR to work by itself, but as soon as I put FS2020 into VR mode it closes fpsVR, and if I relaunch fpsVR FS2020 reverts to desktop mode.
  • Steam VR overlay does not work once FS2020 goes into VR mode.

What am I missing? Never realised this would be so hard.

Thanks!

I have a HP Reverb G2 and am using my Valve Index controllers with it so running SteamVR.

Because of that I can use fpsVR and OVR Toolkit.

I made that happen bu installing “Windows Mixed Reality for SteamVR” and made sure that SteamVR > Developer > Current OpenXR Runtime: SteamVR

Currently no VR for me because of Sim update 3 issues that am waiting for a resolve.

In the OpenXR app, there is a check box you can activate to display the FPS within the helmet - it’s just one eye if I remember.
The value is from that software layer… better than nothing.

You are right in that it’s harder than it needs to be…most folks I have seen asking about this just end up using the Developer Mode in MSFS (turn on the FPS counter), and then take off your headset and you can see the 2D version on your monitor and the FPS is legible there while you tweak graphics settings to where you want them (so adjust the settings while in VR or just go back to 2D and do it there, iterate a bit back and forth into and out of VR, etc). It’s clunky and not ideal, but it works for that initial graphics settings process. I hope at some point the various overlay programs (nvidia, msi afterburner, etc.) will work in VR to allow for more constant monitoring in the future.

Is there a guide anywhere to understanding the OpenXR overlay and what all the numbers mean? I think the color of the display refers to how well the ASW is working (red/blue), but other than that I would love to know how to get more info from this display. (I promise I have searched for an answer, but not come up with anything much)
