I am trying to get my aircraft’s GPS location in the G1000. Through trial and error and some chatting with AIs, I have found the right menu on the MFD/Aux but the gps status item on the list is grayed out and no selectable.
What am I doing wrong? How can I get my aircraft’s GPS location? msfs-2020
Hi @MojaveHigh2379
While there might be some third-party mods available to do that (and I’m not familiar with any off the top of my head), I don’t believe the current G-1000 NXi has the ability to display that information. The only way I know of to do that is open Dev Mode, and there’s an option in there go get your current position/coordinates. I’ll try and double check it later, but unless something significant has happened, that’s the only “in-sim” method to get that info.

I think search and rescue use it?? - Emergency simulations - like power failures. The real garmin 1000 has a continuous GPS update while flying - not this msfs version though.
Thanks for this info!!! I’ve never seen or heard of this capability in the sim. It’s also nice that you can pan the cursor around and get the coordinates for other locations!
Regards!
So far I’ve found if you press the button off and then back on it will update your current GPS location. But I haven’t been able to get a continuous location update without pressing the button again. I’m off to the manual!
Edit: just tested on a known airport location and it was accurate on it’s location.

Navigraph updates the airac cycle about once every 1-2 weeks. It updates the garmin 1000 less frequently but they are all linked. If you have the navigraph HUB you will be able to tell when they update as you need to press the update button.
Otherwise if you were using a real garmin 1000 in a real plane you would get multiple updates per second from the satellites’. The process mentioned above whereby you use the big and small knob to go via the AUX page on the MFD and then 2 clicks to the right on the small knob would give continuous GPS data. Not in MSFS 20 or 24 though. Other larger jets might be different but others may be able to update us on those systems.
Got it.
I wasn’t clear about what I meant about how often the GPS info is updated, I meant how often the unit will update its position information. I will test tonight.
That’s a good point. When you put the G1000 into the map scroll mode I think the GPS coordinate shown is where the cursor is not the plane. That’s how I remember it anyway. I’ve not tried that in ages so I may be wrong. You could just leave the cursor centred on the plane and see how often the readout updates as you fly.
It centres on the plane at the point you press the knob. The little plane continues to fly as per Nav path and the GPS cursor remains at the point you pressed it until you repeat the process - at which point it will update the GPS coordinate
