I am currently getting around 70-80 FPS (60Hz monitor) and 1% lows around 60. My main thread is 26ms and GPU (4070S) is around 15ms. When I use the Debug, Display FPS it is all red at the top. I am using DLSS Frame Gen x2.
I know what FPS means but the relation ship of/with the other things I don’t understand. I would appreciate it if someone could help me understand what these things mean individually and in relation to performance.
You didn’t mention which CPU you have, but regardless.
The main thread is an indication of how fast your CPU can render a single frame, referred to as latency. In your case 26ms or 38.4 FPS (1000/26). Your GPU, on the other hand, can render a frame in 15ms or 66.6 FPS (1000/15).
So in your case the bottleneck is you CPU (CPU limited). 38 FPS with FGx2 enabled would give you 76 FPS, which is what you’re seeing.
The CPU and GPU rates are, of course, dependent on which aircraft you’re flying and your location. An A330 at a large urban airport would yield larger latencies than a C172 at a small rural airport.
A 60 FPS 1% low is an outstanding bit of performance for many of us. Wondering what about your sim experience is deficient for you and your flight sim needs?
FPS fluctuates as you’ve probably notices. 1% lows is an indication of how low your FPS drops 1% of the time. If it drops too low this would normally lead to a lot of stuttering. With an average frame rate of 76 FPS then to have your 1% lows only drop to 60 FPS is very good performance, in my opinion. The higher the 1% lows the better.
I am very happy with the performance of the sim right now. However, I am flying GA aircraft, not at busy or complex airports. Primarily I was just wanting to have a better understanding of what the different graphic parameters meant. A better understanding helps me to evaluate more than just FPS as I make changes in the sim or try more complex aircraft or larger enhanced airports. The smoothness and clarity of the cockpit is really outstanding right now. The best it’s ever been, especially in the glass cockpits.
