How to properly save and load a flight? - Help

Hello guys, i was flying my IFR low altitude with GPS and I tried to save my flight by simply hitting ESC and save (.file) but when I load it there was is no track whatsoever to follow, only the direction and altitude was correct but no flight plan. Is there a solution to this? I just want to be able to load my flight on the same conditions i saved it…

The two times I have used " load a flight " it loaded everything correct. Are you sure you are loading the right file / save ?

Yes, tried afterwards again and didnt work…when you loaded your flight again you could also see again your route and everything? Are you Saving as a .file?

For me, at one occasion, loading was not working fully (position ok, but flight plan missing)
and at another occasion it was working including the flight plan. In the successful case, I set up a flight plan including an approach (not “direct”). In the first case I think I did not do this.
Could this maybe be a prerequisite for a “valid” flight plan?

In my case i was doing a gps flight Plan and it didnt load afterwards… i guess i need to try the the option with approach. So this seems to be a bug in my opinion

Now I loaded the same flight again, where the loading worked fully before, and now interestingly it did not work anymore.
So, it seems that even for the same .flt file hte loading behavior is not consistent.

Yes, there are definitely issues with saving and loading :weary:

Pls all,

from my research of this problematic, now is somehow clear that +/- correct functionality differs to Airliners and GA group. Some users posted infos with A320 or B787 that can load FPL also with planned waypoints (I didn’t test that, I’m mostly GA) but on GA I had that problems with no FPL with saved and then loaded Flight. This is very important update that need to be done. Pls then if you’ll post some problems with FPL and Flight, write also infos about used aircraft type.

I tried it with a Cessna 172 and the Airbus A320, and both didnt work i.e the flight plan did not upload

I found a workaround for the missing flightplan in the fmc after loading a saved flight.
So when you plan your flight in the world map:

  1. save it as flight and as flightplan while you are still in the worldmap.

  2. Then start your flight.

  3. Now after starting your flight save it anywhere during your flight under a different name.

  4. Now go to the folder with your saved flights and open the file in your editor. Scroll down until the following line:

[GPS_Engine]
Filename=C:\USERS\ANWENDER\APPDATA\LOCAL\PACKAGES\MICROSOFT.FLIGHTSIMULATOR_8WEKYB3D8BBWE\LOCALSTATE\MISSIONS\CUSTOM\CUSTOMFLIGHT\CUSTOMFLIGHT

  1. Now change in this line the file path to your file that you saved initally on the world map, for example:

[GPS_Engine]
Filename=C:\USERS\ANWENDER\APPDATA\LOCAL\PACKAGES\MICROSOFT.FLIGHTSIMULATOR_8WEKYB3D8BBWE\LOCALSTATE\TEST

So in my case, i have done a test flight and saved it initially on the worldmap under the name TEST. Right after takeoff i saved the flight under a the name TEST1. In the TEST1 file i changed the file path to the TEST file so that the file uses the flight plan data from that file, as shown above.

It seems the problem is related to the CUSTOMFLIGHT-file which the simulator creates new every time you start a new free flight and so the data for the flight plan get lost. So you have to save the flight initally before starting the flight so that the flight plan data do not get lost.

Hope this helps.

Wow! thanks for that piece of information! :+1: i will give it a try tomorrow and give feedback asap!

You’re welcome. It seems it does not work all the time. For example i just experienced that when you save a flight in the approach phase, the flight plan remains disappeared. So i recommend to save you’re flight at top of descent if you want to save it before landing. I will continue investigating…

I am also having issues with loading saved flights. In the world map I setup a flight plan usually IFR low or high altitude with a specific approach. I save the flight plan (.pln). I then start my flight and at some point I save the .flt file. When I return I load the .flt file and I am flying but without a flight plan. I have experienced this issue on just about all the planes I have flown. The most recent issue was with a Airbus 320.

The above possible workaround did not work for me.
