Hi guys, how can i recover my original CFG file?
(located under “C:\Users\AppData\Local\Packages\Microsoft.Limitless_8wekyb3d8bbwe\LocalCache”)
i did some changes to test some stuff and now i want to get back to the original file. Deleting the cfg file and starting MSFS 2024 will do it?
will i lose some important information by recovering the file? many thanks!
Which cfg file are you referring to? The useropt.cfg file I assume, that contains graphical settings etc.
What I would do, as long as you know what you want to set, is to reset to defaults in the sim, then punch in the settings you want, rather than delete the file, which could be problematic as it also has the location of your Community folder.
There are no backups that I know of bar what you might have configured yourself, though the user of OS snapshots.
For example, if I right click on the “LocalCache” folder, and go to the Previous Versions tab, I have a snapshot from 16/04/2025. I can browse that folder as it was back then.
That was created when my system performed Windows Update, and you can configure those via System Restore.

Thanks for your feedback. Correct, i am refering to the graphical settings, i will set them back to default in the sim, that seems a good and safe option!
Just for your information, if you delete the file, the next time you restart the sim it will just generate a new one with the same graphics settings that were offered when the sim was first installed, same with the flightsimulator.cfg file.

Does it remember the Community location though? I’ve heard cases of users who ended up with a second copy of the sim installed because that file ended up pointing at a default location.
It doesn’t remember the Community folder location.
The Community folder location is defined in the last line
of the UserCfg.opt file for the “Installed Packages”.
If the UserCfg.opt file is missing, the program will build a new UserCfg.opt file with the default location for the “Installed Packages”.
I have never had that problem. Of course this sim doesn’t always behave like it’s supposed to so YMMV.
That’s exactly what I meant. If you delete that file, and you had a non standard install, the file will be recreated but it will not have the same install path now. That’s why I suggested not to delete it, just in case. Just reset to defaults in the sim, then reconfigure.
