Hi everyone,
This is the forum that I always find the answers so I’ve decided to ask your help. I’ve googled it but I wasn’t quite sure with what I found.
I have a desktop pc and then I bought a second SSD and installed MSFS etc everything in it, so the main SSD has only the OS.
Now I bought another PC, and I want to move the second SSD to my new PC. What’s the best way of doing it, I’ll format my old PC and possibly the second SSD too, but do I need to do something before I completely remove it from my mainboard ? In the BIOS side or something.
Many thanks already for all the answers.
Regards !
It’s a pretty easy process for non-bootable drives. The BIOS only cares about what drives ARE installed - it has no memory - so you don’t have to worry about the old PC. Of course, if you have shortcuts to programs located on the 2nd drive, they will no longer work.
As for the new PC…same thing. The BIOS will find the drive and do what it needs to do without you needing to do anything. Windows will recognize the drive, but you may need to initialize it in ‘Disk Manager’ before you can see the contents. I say “may” because I’ve mostly worked with platter drives in the past, and I don’t know how ‘automatic’ that might be with SSD’s. I doubt it’s any different.
When you run Disk Manager you’ll get a notification that the drive needs to be initialized. It’s a non-destructive process, and once you initialize it you’ll be able to access all the files on it.
Again, this is all predicated on the 2nd drive not being a system boot drive, and instead just a file storage drive.
Thank you so so much !
