How to set Hotkey to Point Camera at Destination

Hello - one challenge with a SIM is being able to look around (easily). A good example of this is when in the pattern, particular turning base & final. There’s a lot going on, so fumbling with a mouse or other option to manually position the camera is tricky.

Up until a couple days ago I was able to solve this by using a button on my joystick (in my case the “trigger” button). It would fairly consistently point at my destination. So, for example, while in the pattern, I could just pull the trigger, and the camera would point at the runway, so I could see my position relative to it.

Yesterday an update installed - I’m now on 1.12.13.0 - and that functionality disappeared. Now pressing that button points the camera in seemingly random directions, making the actions I described difficult and distracting.

I’ve seen videos on how to configure custom cameras, but the ones I’ve seen have all been about how to position the camera in a fixed location. In this case the postion needs to be dynamic, based on my position relative to my destination. Is there a way I can set this up to once again work as I need it?

Thanks in advance!

I think you are referring to the smartcam. The sim decides what is relevant. Sometimes it will point at the nearest airport and other times it will point at a random aircraft miles away, which might explain what you are experiencing. You can bind keys to switch to next/previous smartcam targets, or reset it. You can also set your own targets.

I haven’t noticed any change to the way it works with the latest update, however.

Thanks a lot for the tip. I’ll research the smartcam further. Thanks!
