How to start non-steam version in SteamVR?

Is there anyway or need to buy the steam version? I just dont like openxr, get bad stutters. SteamVR is always butter smooth in other sims.

The game only supports OpenXR. It’s not a choice, and Steam version or MS store version are identical in most regards.

I’m curious what applications gave you a bad experience with OpenXR. The general consensus on this forum and many others is that performance is vastly superior when going through native OpenXR support.

If you really want to keep using SteamVR, you can set up SteamVR as your default OpenXR runtime. You can do that from SteamVR’s settings, under Developer (need to show advanced settings).

Hope that helped.

I cant get the boundary to work probably with the G2. Either takes ages to finally get a valid attempt due to it keep losing tracking in the setup progress or on reboot fails to load boundary.

So openxr just wobbles all over the place, even if i just set it as sitting position only.
So if i use SteamVR it locks you in your sitting position. I can’t lean forward or backwards, but can move head left to right, which is okay for me and stays pretty much in the middle most times.

With Assetto Corsa in OpenXR i saw the fps hitting red spikes randomly and stuttering with OpenVR only at 70%. In SteamVR I can setting the SS to 150% and FPSVR shows its only at 60-70% usage and butter smooth.
I have 3080 and 5800x3d and just did a clean reboot recently, still the same results.

Thanks, will try that then.

This is due to poor lighting conditions in your room. G2 needs good contrast objects in your room in order to work properly. Lit up the room and put all lights that you have on. Clear enviroment data (settings → mixed reality → enviroment) and redo the boundary. This should improve the tracking.
