Can someone remind me what command/shortcut in MSFS can be used to turn around when in VR?
I remember being able to do this in the past but forgot how to do it. I think it was by using one of the arrow keys on your keyboard together with SHIFT/ALT/CTRL but can’t make it work now.
I wonder if it could be related to what aircraft you’re in? Because I recently started flying the iFly 737 MAX where I used to fly the PMDG NG. Maybe there’s a setting somewhere in the cameras.cfg file for the aircraft which will allow/stop you from turning around like this in VR?
I understand the reasoning behind it. The Goose for example has the fuel valves behind the pilots head, getting back there and using a mouse to click the valves is a major pain in the rear, you have to do a twist that would make a circus contortionist jealous to reach them and still use the mouse.
In my case, I would like to do it to be able to walk back into the cabin in VR. Since I’m facing forward by default when in the cockpit, moving back into the cabin would mean I would have to go backwards. Hence I would like to stand up, turn around and walk back into the cabin…facing the cabin on my way back there.
I map some hard to reach/see instrument views to my joystick so I teleport to them when I need them. eg. on Concorde instrument view 10 gives me access to the flight engineer panel for fuel transfers.
Note there is a long standing bug with instrument views in VR whereby the mouse viewpoint is not focused on the panel. The left eye is the correct one. It was reported to, and acknowledged by, Asobo nearly two years ago now but still hasn’t been fixed. After so long like this, I am now used to it but I am still disappointed that it hasn’t been fixed for so long.
Thanks guys, already using user defined camera views and it works fine. Still, it would be nice if you could also just swing around inside the aircraft in the same way you can in showcase view by using 4 and 6 on the num keypad.
As for Asobo not addressing such a long standing and already confirmed issue of course is sad but maybe with some luck, the attention will be better now in MSFS2024 when they will treat VR as a separate platform in combination with more and more people start enjoying VR.
“A platform” = dedicated VR team disbanded ca. 2 years ago, VR must be supported by all the teams responsible for various sim components, but nobody thinking about new VR-related features or fixes.
Well, let’s hope that will change for the better and for now, if we will have the same VR support and experience as in the current sim, I’m happy with that.
The default profile for my Thrustmaster joystick has the hat switch left and right positions moving your head position in VR either left or right 90 degrees respectively. I use them when I want to look back into the cabin of smaller aircraft as it means I only have to physically turn my head 90 degrees from front to be looking rearward ie. 180 degrees.
I just looked at what they are and they are COCKPIT QUICKVIEW LEFT/RIGHT. There is also a COCKPIT QUICKVIEW REAR, which sounds exactly like what you are after. Just assign a key or joystick button to it and you should be right to go, noting that you do have to hold the key/button the whole time you want to be in the rear facing position.
