As a casual player, I mainly use career mode because I enjoy flights with a sense of purpose. I was excited to dive deeper into flight planning using METAR reports and charts. However, I’ve found these features aren’t very useful in career mode. Most airports used in missions lack charts and weather reports, which feels like a missed opportunity.
I understand that Lido charts are mainly for larger airports, but it seems like their integration wasn’t well considered in career mode. This could have been a great way to learn advanced aviation concepts, but the limited coverage is disappointing. It seems like these features are more relevant for passenger transport with bigger planes
Yes I know I can get charts elsewhere for free. For example chart fox. And FAA charts are also integrated besides LIDO.
I just think it’s a missed opportunity that the (BTW much appreciated) integration of charts into the base sim is of so little use for career mode. Maybe during mission creation they could have preferred airports with charts and only when all of those are saturated create new ones on other airports.
The integration lowers the barrier into more advanced flight planning a lot and missions are perfect to slowly ease into the whole planning part. Only problem is you only start to take advantage of the charts during later stages of gameplay when you fly airliners. I’d like to learn using them earlier with smaller planes at smaller airports (without the need to search on external websites or pay a subscription). IMO they could have done more with the charts they have available. Maybe they can tune the missions a bit to take advantage of the charts coverage
I know it’s not all of career mode but the VIP Charter missions often go to larger airports. I’ve been flying the PC24 and Cj4 to airports like KMIA, KTEX, KEWR etc
