HP Reverb 2 , failure questiom

I have the " left eye black, right eye black" , then total failure of the headset. I checked all forums ,tried every suggestion and trick.
Now , what is wrong? The headset or cable? Way past warranty. I see this was/is a very common problem.
The cost to replace the cable is 290.00 plus taxes , plus shipping.. Are the new cables failing also?
Any help apprec

Take the front plate off. That is removing the four deeply inserted screws around the face gasket ( not the magnetic points for the gasket, those are not deeply inserted ). Wiggle the front plate off. Voila, your headset is now properly cooled. Since I did that, a lot of my problems were solved especially that one.
I have a fan blowing gently in the general direction of my face as well, which helps even more with the cooling, for me and the headset.

Had this problem about a year ago and HP confirmed this was a fault with the G2 v.2 and not the cable.
Their customer service was great and they replaced the HMD free of charge.
Touch wood no problems so far but I “rest” the HMD after around 1 hour if I detect the top left getting hot.

That hotspot is way colder since the front plate removal. Alternatively one could drill some ventilation holes in the front cover. As long as the hot air can be replaced by cooler air.

Well, Thank You for the big tip…so simple Performed 3 flights 40 min to over an hour, zero issues.
Yes , I will try drilling the cover. When looking out of the window, my head out the window of the AIRBUS 320, I bang the goggles on the file cabinet . hmmm know what I MEAN,
Fingers x ed .. thx again
