It’s still shaking with my system. Everything is updated. I tried with/without motion repro with open xr.
UPDATE on Shaking, Performance, and Image Quality (Lessons Learned)
(Windows 11 / 12700 / 32GB / 3080 / G2)
I will begin by saying that I am new to VR, so apologies in advance if I share something that is rather “obvious” to other community members.
Cockpit Shaking
- Problem: The cockpit would shake so much that I could not use the sim. A temporary solution was to turn HAGS off.
- Solution?: This problem seems to have gone away after I updated to the latest NVIDIA driver and performed an Environment “Clean” in the WMR app. I am now able to run with HAGS turned on. While there is still a little shakiness, it is much better and certainly usable. Unfortunately, I don’t have a reference to know if what I’m experiencing now is ideal or if there is still room for improvement. It is about the same as when HAGS was turned off.
Image Quality & Performance
- Problem: I was not getting great performance. Additionally, I would see people on YouTube sharing their configurations and saying how great the image was and mine was nowhere close to what they were describing.
- Solution: This is probably obvious to people here but my big discovery was that I need to use the OpenXR Developer tool with the use of the Beta version selected. Once I did this, I was able to increase settings in the sim and at the same time increase the smoothness and the image quality.
With these updates, I was able to enjoy a 90-minute flight along the California coast without any issues. Overall, with these changes, I am now a happy camper.
I hope this might help someone else in a similar situation.
One thing you can try while you’re waiting for a fix : Block 2 cameras of your G2 with (black) electrical tape. One on the side and the other across on the front of the headset. I tried side left and front right. It reduces the overall sensitivity slightly. It’s a band-aid not a solution. You mileage might vary here. Also you might loose tracking while doing so. Make sure you don’t use tape that is too sticky, you don’t wanna mess up your hard earned headset. Electrical tape ain’t that sticky. You could use a piece of paper and scotch tape too of course. But please, in every case, be good to your headset.
Weird. When did you perform that update?
Unfortunately, there have been few Windows updates since, 3 I think. I can’t pinpoint when it appeared to be fixed.
One important thing to mention, it’s that I also clear my Environment Data in the Mixed Reality settings.
Also, I have a Radeon 6800XT MBE so, the HAGS stuff does not apply. My OpenXR scaling is at 100% and the beta option is activated. I have a Lenovo WMR headset.
In the end, the shaking issue is not present anymore.
Ahhh ok. Didn’t know you have a Lenovo headset. Do you clear the environment data every single time before playing? My Win11 is up-to-date but the issue didn’t go away.
I did once and it seems to be going fine… for now.
I’m running the 21.11.13 AMD drivers (latest official).
Newest Driver´s, latest Win Updates. Shaking still present. The G2 is hyper senstitive in motion. AMD Ryzen 5600X, 3060ti.
Had both issues. The ‘everything shaking’ bug I managed to solve by disabling HAGS. The other one, where only the cockpit is shaking, is still present. Win 11, G2, I9900K, 3090
EDIT: It seems indeed to be tied to the framerate - the lower the framerate, the worse the issue. That’s why reducing the render scaling improves things.
I tried win11 again after a couple of weeks … there is no doubt for me it’s not quite as bad so some update(s) may have improved things … BUT if you go back to Win10 it’s as steady as a rock. Also if you try WMR reinstall Win11 has a dummy spit and this is mentioned back in many posts going back to at least October.
So my conclusion is that Win11 and WMR are messed up but Microsoft are not yet focussed on this small niche part of their market as there’s plenty keeping them occupied getting Win11 acceptance in other bigger market areas.
So Win10 for a while longer … for me at least.
Hi @CPSweatPants , I don’t remember the exact date. It was when I received a notification of a driver update for my GPU. I am thinking it was last week.
Hi @FlyawayPenny53, I will have to experiment with varying the framerate and see what happens.
i was on win11 went back to win10 and still have with this issue, hags is off tried everything i can think off.
Yep as I said way back up this thread. I also had this issue in Windows 10 before upgrading to Windows 11.
If this problem existed with Win10 then we would know about it … this is a problem specific to Win11 and there’s no likelihood of imminent progress from what I can see.
Well I am telling you I had this extremely sensitive head shaking when I was on Windows 10 shortly before updating to Windows 11 where there was no change, neither better or worse.
You don’t have to believe me and that’s fine but I’m not the only one.
Hey guys, @mbucchia released a toolkit today that helps lowering the overall shakiness and over-sensitivity of the G2.
You can download it here:
The setting you wanna tweak is called :
Prediction dampening
I reduced it from 0% (=100%) to -25% (=75%)
I am getting good results using a range from -27% to -20% depending on scenery and/or aircraft. The issue (at least for me) is not completely gone, but it’s down to a level that makes the sim enjoyable again with the G2. Let all of us know what settings work best for you, and share your own findings !
Please read the instructions on @mbucchia’s webpage for how to use the tool properly..,
Good luck , happy simming and a big thanks to @mbucchia

Very big thanks for the tool and for the info of that. I lower down the prediction to -50% and it is many better now. The other settings of the tool are also very useful. The sharpness adjustment helps to reduce the blurry in the G2. Many thanks.
Folks who end up using / trying my tool above, can you post whether it helped or not helped, and what value you are using?
We (my team at Microsoft) would like to gather data on what values work and how we can tune the official OpenXR runtime. Your data will be useful for our experiments.
I tested with w11, rtx2800, ryzen 5600x, 32gb ram, hp reverb g2 (renewed cable for amd).
My openxr settings are: latest preview checked, 100 percent scale, motion repro off.
Game settings are mid-high ish. Render scale is 100.
Toolkit settings: fsr on (it seems better than nis for me), world scale 95, prediction dampening -45%
For shaking issue, it is completely playable for me now. My cockpit is solid. Very very clear visuals, no annoying amount of shaking anymore. I am changing dampening according to plane or scenery performance. Sometimes I am even using -100% just like a silk (if you don’t move your head too much, otherwise nausea comes)
The tool is like a dream. I really want to say thanks a lot for your great effort!
For motion repro, when I try to use it, my fps is fluctuating between 26 and 12. Unplayable. Even I try to downgrade settings, fps is not stable. I am not sure why. Previously it wasn’t like that. I checked cpu and gpu percentages but both were not highly used. There is a room to use. I guess usage percentages will be better with dx12 optimizations. I am using dx11 now.
Still testing but I am happy with the results. If I find anything, I will inform you.
I also ordered leap motion controller. When I get it, I will test it too. I really can’t wait to see how hand tracking will be improved with your tool!
Thanks again for this great tool.
For the head shaking issue I’m using a dampening value of -50% and that tends to be the best and smoothest figure for me.

OpenXR render 100%
