Huge increase in performance with new Intel i9 11900K!

With the new Intel ‘Rocket Lake’ CPU’s, this is great news for added performance for FS2020. From a report by Tom Warren (The Verge). ‘Most of Flight Simulator runs in a main thread that is often limited by how well your CPU can run single threaded apps and games’ An average boost over a Intel (Comet Lake) i9 10900K of approx. 20% (45fps at 1440 res.) with a RTX3090 GPU. And if you have a M.2 Gen 4.0 SSD, you could not get any better performance.

I’m going to upgrade at some point from my 10850k. Might as well since it’s compatible with my motherboard. There are other reviews that show more like a 10% increase in performance in MSFS, but of course it depends on the test system, scenario, and settings.

April fools joke, isn’t it? The 11900 is worse than AMD pretty much in everything.

I didn’t see them drawing a comparison with AMD in that post. I did see a comparison between the 10900K, and the 11900K. I know because I looked twice. :eyes:

I run a 9900K, so even if that only netted me a 20% increase, it’s not a huge outlay to obtain that.

I suggest you to wait for the adoption of DX12.
Our CPU (10850K) has two more cores which could reduce or overturn the performance difference with DX12.

I was planning to still purchase the i9 10900K over the 11th Gen as I was thinking to get 2 extra cores for a lower price. I understand that MSFS is heavily limited by CPU at the moment but I thought that when DX12 comes out this should not be an issue as it should be able to take advantage of more than 4 cores.

Hahaha! Here in the UK atm I can buy an i9 10900F (10C/20T) for less than the Ryzen 5 5600X (6C/12T), seems like a no brainer!

I smell an AMD channel.

It doesn’t look great does it. Perhaps 12th gen is worth the wait.

All things being equal you shouldn’t expect a successor chip to be slower than any previous chip it replaces. Slower, and slightly more expensive. That’s not a good marketing slogan.

12th gen should bring a good performance uplift around the end of 2021. But soon after that Zen 4 will come in Feb-April. Exciting times, costumers will only benefit from this fight.

Although even with the lower core count, there doesn’t seem to be much of a change in multi-thread performance. It will be interesting to see how much of a difference DX12 makes to MSFS.

I have to wait anyway because they’re sold out.

The 11900K has been called a waste of sand and worse things. I have a 4790K and 1070 and will finally pull the plug for a 5900X and a 3080. There will always be something new around the corner and, if I kept waiting, I’d sill have my old Vic-20.

Why buy into this waste of sand when DDR5 support comes with the next generation later this year?

As for “An average boost over a Intel (Comet Lake) i9 10900K of approx. 20%”

It’s a lot of money to spend for about 8fps on hardware which has reached the end of its development cycle. (Intel will switch to a new socket, chipset and memory support in a few months)

Thanks for replies. I already know about the negatives of the Intel, compared to the Ryzen CPU and the ‘Comet Lake’ CPUs. As I am NOT a techno freak, and don’t really care. I have no choice as I already have a Z590 Asus MB. And planning on buying a M.2 Gen 4.0 Corsair SSD. Compared to my old i7-6700K, the i9-11900K has to be miles better, not the best I admit. It was sheer luck I was able to get hold of an RTX3090 GPU very recently, after 6 months of trying. I’m certainly not waiting more time for the 12th gen Intel’s. As said, I am not a techno freak and I’m sure I will be happy with i9 11900K. Please don’t keep bombarding this post with negatives about this CPU, as I don’t care. More positives and more happiness please.

MSFS code is what it is. it’s the only program which make my i7-10700K OC for now at 4,9Ghz all core sweat. I have in my pocket 2 other OC at 5,0 and 5,1Ghz all cores and really stable, but I keep 4,9 because I think, and it’s my humble opinion, that’s my processor is a beast, and the problem is not on my side. As I said, MSFS code is what it is, but all other sims, apps and games monitor or VR have difficulties to wake up my 8c/16t (coupled with my RTX 3070).

So upgrading is far from my schedule  something have to change, not me IMHO…

Which again will likely only offer an 8fps increase. It’s unrealistic to expect a doubling of performance, and we will only ever get small incremental jumps between processors. More efficient code is what we need, not raw grunt from the chips.

That said, a quad core chip at 5Ghz for all four cores would be lovely.

Call it the 12900MSFS.
