Hyperthreading

The whole 3000 series is not really a good CPU for MSFS due to latency in between modules. I think they are made of 4 cores. So you have 4 cores (one module), 8 cores (two modules) and 12 cores (three modules). The latency in between them is considerable, especially in the 1000 and 2000 series.

These are no good for games that depends heavily on a single core, like MSFS. Back then, the i9-9900K or the i9-10900K would be way better for MSFS. i7 and i5 as well.

I would check articles to see when DDR5 and Ryzen 6000 will be released, because if it takes too long, going from the 3800X to the 5800X is a considerable upgrade, sort of like two generations, since you have two Intel generations in between that are better in MSFS (at least in 1440p).

If your motherboard supports the 5800X, I think it would be a no brainer.

Of course the 5000 & 6000’s are great but $$$!!! (I’m vulnerable so have hardly worked since pre covid) Besides that, a single thread CPU-Z score of 530.2 doesn’t seem too shabby to me

It is the latency that matters in games in this case. The same way HEDT chips from Intel were generally behind in games even though they had more cores. The Ring Bus architecture of Intel (LGA 1155 / 51) dominated gaming untill the Ryzen 5000 series.

So in between your 3800X and 5800X you had the whole lineup of i5 and i7 and i9s from the 9th, 10th and 11th generation of Intel to chose from. They do perform better in MSFS at least in 1440p. Perhaps 4K is a draw, but then the CPU is not the bottleneck anymore. But it could influence stutters and lag.

If you sell your 3800X, you just have to pay the difference. Or you could wait for the 6000 series.

Thanks that was well explained. I think my B550M pro-vdh wifi can support them so I’ll probably give it a whirl. Of course I’ll wait for the sixes and then buy a five which should get a lot cheaper overnight.

Deleted post as I meant to edit one above

How come i have massive FPS gains with HT off then?

Hyperthreading has it’s own overheads and as few games/sims need more than four threads it all depends what else is running on your computer. I turn HT off for MSFS and back on again for crunching long videos etc.

How do you turn off hyperthreading?

In your bios advanced settings. HT for Intel or SMT for AMD

I am sorry, your results 6cores and more are simply within margin of error… :blue_heart:

Hyperthreading is smart enough to give priority to heavy threads. Just leave it on, you are not smarter as the folks @ Intel or AMD :blue_heart:

Intel and AMD do their best to get you balanced and a well working all around computer.

Many of us only have interest in a gaming machine and to that end there are countless tweaks settings and adjustments one can make. (put there for a reason)

While HAGS, Virtualization, Gaming Mode and Hyperthreading may work for others for me they all work better off.

I also smart enough to know that these things may all change and I just went through testing them all once again after beginning testing Win11. Now I’m off to see if the sim still works after completely uninstalling Game Bar.

yeah, also there may have been some error as it was on Ryzen 3rd gen, don’t know if CCX layout had an effect

good news is that I have acquired a 9900k, and will be able to test performance plus cpu scaling myself!

Have you noticed a degradation in performance in sim running Win 11?

In forza I noticed a 20% drop in the CPU framerate it reported, but haven’t tried other games. Would be interesting to note because I rolled back out very quickly out of fright

Win10:

Win11:

Yes for sure until it comes to stutters that aren’t simply dropped frames. And even then there’s nothing wrong with mitigation until someone actually comes up with a cure…

Yours sincerely, AMD 3800X user.

I did and then I brute forced al the XBox stuff out of my PC and they came back.

I noticed even when it was turn off it was pretty high in processes.

I do now get an error pop up looking for screenoverlay but so far no negative effect on performance on that, I just ignore it.

It’s a pointless discussion now, 20 days before an update that changes the loads on cpu on a level never seen before in MSFS…

I’ve seen this discussion far too often coming up, it’s ridiculous…

About as ridiculous as believing that on July 27 MSFS will reach nirvana just because they said so…

There is always tomorrow, and patience is not the strongest point on people, but without Explorer sense, we would still be in the stone age and wouldnt be bothered about deadlines to when the frames are best on what build with what driver to render our virtual Dreams.
So if you want on win 11 do so if not do so what tomorrow brings will always be a mystery because there always will be tomorrow.

Sincerly Sebastiaan

Ps. this is what i like about tomorrow
