What is P3D and X-Plane? Oh, you mean those products which are equally out-of-the-box lacking. You aren’t going to be happier with either of those.
Your making a assumption it is the future. What knowledge do you have no one else does?
Right now it is a video game with lots of eye candy like video games typically have.
I’m not waiting for MS/Asobo to prove me wrong. I will still play this game and simulate on the others.
I’ve seen nor read nothing that states this. It is wishfull thinking
They could end development at anytime like in the past.
I might be wrong but I think you can try XP11 for free.
They have officially committed to 10 years of support.
10 years of product support yes. The word “support” is very disconcerting. It doesn’t mean 10 years of improvements, development or new content. It’s anybody’s guess as to what that means.
In 10 years if that’s how long the road map is, something else will probably come along.
10 years is a very long time.
The fact it’s supported for 10 years basically guarantees that 3rd party devs will find it worthwile to invest effort into it, and that’s what matters.
Just like for all others the highest quality additional content will likely not be made by MS but by 3rd parties. The base is better than older products so of course a better platform to build upon, and that’s what MS will care about ensuring.
Thanks a lot for everyone answers. I will then head toward X-Plane 11. While I agree that MSFS is a nice step forward, it does not feel anywhere near completion to me. Yes, it is beautiful but woaw, it is bugged as hell and lack too much content and functionalities to real give me enjoy. I guess it would not be too far fetch to say that MSFS feels to me like Star Citizen: a beautiful bugged piece of art.
The 10 years support is great to hear for sure but so far, from what I saw and heard, third party devs are complaining by the lack of communications from Asobo as well as almost undocumented SDK… I guess we are years away from seeing proper study level getting released. I also got vey disappointed by the security around “premium” aircraft: no liveries no third party fixes can be done for the Longitude because they locked the content… Obviously the game just got released and time will tell and none of my arguments above are permanent: I am sure it will become one of the best sim out there, it just need more work.
And while they work on it, I will be transitioning to another sim where what is missing can be added straight away without having to bet on the future and wait few months.
Wise choice!
Sure, go to XP11 and spend first 2 weeks adding stuff in.
Before MSFS I was using Xplane, the forums there are full of complaints about the 11.50 update about this doesn’t work, that doesn’t work , so just as much complaining going on there.
Hopefully OP has 100s of gigs ready and days of installation time for ortho that looks barely as good as Bing data.
That’s simply not true, scenery add-ons have to be placed in a particular order as they are effectively layers. You can get a program called XOrganizer to take care of add-ons, but again there is another small cost.
Honestly, I don’t care about having beautiful scenery. I am flying IFR literally 100% of the time. All I need is a woking airplane and stable flight model. When it comes to graphics, I really don’t care and honestly Bing data are (and I come from the geospatial industry) the worst commercial “high res” sat imagery I have seen: they don’t even mosaic the tiles in a cloud free way. Even 3m/px Planetscope basemap look better.
Xorganizer does not solve all your problems within the ecosystem. It helps of course, but the pain in the bu tt is still there, the hassle is still there. There will always be something that will fail sadly
If you like IFR flying in Jetliners you most certainly will want the Zibomod 737.
It is a freeware project which has been ongoing since many years and the quality and realism of this plane are breathtaking. Very highly recommended.
If you dont have it downloaded try the free version, now I have to go and sort out my new joystick in M/s.
P3D if you’re into liners and procedures. Still has the best and most high quality add-ons overall. Xplane if you have unlimited amounts of money for scenery (it’s not that great though, but better than P3D for VFR)
Go with XPlane demo to have a good or bad feeling for it. Then decide by yourself.
For now, I would not recommend P3D at all due to reasons others already mentioned
if you are ready to mess with addon and folder and file order, and if you have a lot money to spend, you can buy xplane 11, all the weather mods, all the scenery, all the planes, then you will have to pass some ours (if you are like) to put everything in the right order in the folder, than maybe you can play at 30 fps on 3k machine, to have a half better view of this buggy (for now) flight simulator, so maybe, just maybe, is better to wait a little
1 good point to xplane is the realism, it’s more realystic, with all those pro planes, mark.
Don’t be put off by the nay sayers here. Installing XP 11.50 is not hard, and you won’t have to go and edit config files to get it up and running. You do need to have modern GPU and driver installed.
Installing plugins and aircraft is as simple as downloading, unzipping, and dragging into the right folder under x-plane folder.
The problems come in and all the “complainers” in the forum are going on about, is that a lot of 3rd party plug ins require updating to work with 11.50 in vulkan rendering mode. None of the generally agreed “must haves” are old and not actively developed.
For IFR airliner flight, you just need to install the Zibo 737. Trust me, I have several payware airliners and I still prefer the Zibo (which is free)
You will probably want a navigraph account for nav data and charts, and also Aviators Tablet (avitab) which is free.
You probably want a better pushback experience, and for that you install… wait for it… Better Pushback (also free).
I’d start with that and see how you like things. There are many more things that can be installed, but I keep it to the bare minimum of the best of the best plugins and aircraft.
If you want a better scenery experience, look into ortho’s by ForkBoy (free), or look into Ortho4XP (free) to compile your own from satellite images. If you do that, and fly MSFS2020 and XP at cruise altitude you would have a tough time picking which one is which. MSFS2020 doesn’t really shine at high alts.
So the idea that one has to purchase and install a gazillion plugins to get a real flight sim experience in XP is just wrong.
One thing I really can´t understand…I live in a small city in Brazil (SBVG) and I´m enjoying very well MSFS 2020, some problems but nothing so big. Installed with no problems, patch 1 was good, patch 2 very good in smoothness.
I have a i7 4771K, a RTX 2060 6GB 32 GB memory. Good internet. Have P$D 4.5 with almost all more important addons installed ( US$ 3.000 I think) but now I don´t use him anymore. I prefer MSFS 2020.
Had some CTD but discovered that overclocking my video card was the cause, no more now.
