I can not copy files inside this folder:
C:\Program Files\WindowsApps\Microsoft.FlightSimulator_1.18.15.0_x64__8wekyb3d8bbwe
I need to apply a “mod” (based on a reshade) and must be in the directory of the exe of the game.
I find out how to have access to WindowsApps directory, and I can copy a file inside WindowsApps directory, but not insided \Microsoft.FlightSimulator_1.18.15.0_x64__8wekyb3d8bbwe
When I try to copy a file inside this folder I get a message saying that there is not enough space in the folder (and that is absurd, the file is small and I have lots of Gb on my hard drive, so must be some type of protection).
MS Store games want to be “different”. Steam users don’t have this problem…, so this is my 1st MS Store game, and the last one (too much time lost to play the game MS wants).
I’d check with the mod developer. It’s probably locked for reasons to do with security. Messing with executables, even the directory is not a good idea.
MS Store apps are placed in a protected directory which uses some extremely heavy permissions to keep normal users out. I believe it’s part of MS Stores DRM system and is ingrained into Windows to stop people simply downloading and ripping the content out.
I also believe that direct modifications to MS Store apps is considered a breach of the EULA so it’s likely you’re not going to be able to apply your mod.
That’s one of the numerous reason I switched from MS Store (monthly gamepass) to Steam. I could’nt stand not having control in my own computer as I am Admin and hardware and software Engineer for more than 35 years.
saying that, I read about a special version of reshade to accommodate this issue.
Thanks, unfortunately this is not only reshade, but a “mod” intended to work with any directx 11 game, and also uses reshade (but it is not only reshade).
This “mod” is nor really a common mod for MSFS, but a modification to alter the visuals of any directx 11 game to obtain the desired effect (in this case the possibility to have the 2 pictures to experience 3D, if you have the necessary hardware).
This modification can be used with ANY directx 11 game, and the use is as simple as copying the necessary files in the same folder with the exe of the game. And here I have the problem with MS Store and its restrictions.., I can not copy a single file in the directory of the game.
I also share the opinion that MY COMPUTER is mine, and nobody (Microsoft in this case) should forbid me to access and copy anywhere if I need, specially when we talk about a game, and there is no restriction to do the smae using Steam.
I’m afraid your technically incorrect. Yes, it is your computer but by purchasing a license for MSFS you’re actually just getting permission to download and use those files, but they’re not actually yours to modify as you like, hence the heavy DRM to stop you from doing it.
MS/Asobo own those files and you can use them by license only.
I agree it’s an utter pain, but it’s part of MSFS and all other MS store apps I’m afraid. If you want to modify the files, you either need the boxed version or steam.
This is inside the C:\Program Files folder, which is a protected system folder. It looks like you’ve already taken ownership, but my bet is that you have Windows 10 Home like I do. Without at least Win-10 Pro (or possibly Enterprise), I doubt you’ll be able to do anything to add a file to that folder.
I also have a problem with external tools asking for the exe file. It is unusable for me and send it back. I’ll never buy a MS game again. Steam doesn’t have the problem.
