Well to be fair, they at least show the actual game.
When they try to show nice things, people get mad because it doesn’t represent the actual game (coastlines with shadow masks e.g.).

I’ve never been to Paris but when I fly over it in the sim, I thought someone removed all of the color as nearly all of the buildings are white! I actually had to Google-map the place so confirm that I will be flying Paris mostly during twilight. So yes, I agree with SkyArmy… a very drab splash page to say the least!
I think it’s the same source for the photogrammetry of WU3 which was worse. It’s Blue Sky I think.
Most likely the same source too for the Nordic countries. Hope they find a new source soon.
The are just honestly presenting the capabilities of the sim in dense photogrammetry area. Any editing would mean false advertising.

Exactly - if they just put up an actual photo of Paris, you can imagine the outcry.
I’ve only ever tried xplane, so I know the answer for that one, but is there any other sim that could come close to this kind of actual sim picture with DEFAULT scenery? I’m going to hazard a guess that the answer is “no”.
And yet still there are complaints and mud slinging.

Hear, hear. This whole thing is slipping fast. Someone needs to get control.
If it rings on the door while you start the game, you have to throw a blanket over the monitor…it is embarrassing.
The picture looks fine. Expecting autogen to look in high detail when there are millions to render is asking for performance issues. Especially pointless considering in most cases you are flying thousands of feet about it and travelling at 100mph+

the real problem with this picture is that it seems to be based on google earth data. wondering what microsoft thinks about this, once they would care about asobo.
If you set the bar low enough, no one will be disappointed.

I have not noticed anything special in that picture so far.
For those unfamiliar with Paris, what do wee need to pay attention to ?

If you don’t want this picture, what do you want? Just stick up a postcard picture of Paris and then complain as the sim doesn’t match reality?

Even those who are highly critical of MSFS (and I’m not one of them) admit that the visual side of it is often incredible. However, city photogrammetry is not very good generally. I don’t blame MSFS for this - there are clearly limitations to what photogrammetry can achieve at present.
So please don’t take this as a complaint, or as mud slinging, because it’s not intended as such. But why, when any user of the sim given 5 minutes could probably come up with a good screenshot that would illustrate the new world update, did they select this? I’m honestly curious as to what the decision making process was.
When there are so many visual things that the sim does amazingly well, why would you choose to highlight one of the few aspects that isn’t so great? I don’t get it.

Whilst photogrammetry isn’t perfect, and as Asobo themselves admit various hugely in quality, its still quite incredible to have in a flight sim like this. If the PG isn’t great quality then either turn it off (although I personally think even the worst PG is better than any auto gen effort) or don’t fly low over it.
Current FPS performance issues aside I still find this sim an absolute wonder from a visual point of view. Its incredible. Its worth noting that we’re not anywhere near a year from launch and there have been big improvements to the visuals in that time. Asobo have said there are big visual upgrades coming later this year including to the PG quality. You wonder how good it’ll all look in a few years time.

I dont get what you are complaining about.
This picture shows exactly what the scenery looks like in the sim.
Does it look like a photograph? No
Is it the best that photogrammetry can provide at the moment? Yes
Does it look closer to reality than any other Simulator before? Absolutely
Is there an option to turn it off and use generic buildings instead? Yes
Show me downtown Paris in any other Sim that looks better by default, or even an Addon that gives better realism at the same performance and I might understand your criticism.
Else I am afraid you are complaining to be living at the wrong time, where technology isn’t as advanced as you would like it to be.

100% agree, and if you are really that obsessed by realism, consider that fact that you should be flying at least 1000ft over populated areas, and from that height, looking down, it is amazingly realistic,
